55 Gallon Pharm drums

Hey guys and gals,

I wanted to let you know of a bargin I ran into this weekend. I have been looking for a 55 gallon drum like Jim has to make up my water change water. I found a place in Gap PA that sells Pharm grade drums like Jim's with lids for $9.50. They are in great shape and this is the cheapest I've seen them. Let me know if anyone is interested and need directions.

They are Pharmaceutical Drums. I know a little about this from being in the industry. The Pharmaceutical companies line the drums with plastic and use these drums to ship oral pills. They are food grade which means they are safe to store water and food.

That Antique place has been selling those drums for many years they are fine for ro water . it is some times hard to get the lids there though. those huge square tanks they have there would be great for your "waste "water from your rodi . ?Why do they call it waste water ?its now cleaner than the water coming into your house ! and we throw it down the drain ! im thinking of burring one in the back yard for watering the yard

I looked at all the drums they had and they all had lids. The place is right down Rt 41 head towards Lancaster. Thw shop is on the left hand side when you get to Gap, PA

Oh Yeah, its that barn like place on 41 right across the street from the clock tower, just 300 yards before you get to the route 30 intersection. Right? are they going out of business? i thought i saw a sign to that effect when i went to TFP tent sale .

how about the "barrel man" who sometimes sells on a lot on route 40 just west of elkton. weekends i think? anybody know his prices? I think they are similar. he sometimes sells at the new castle flea market a couple times a year.

Those Pharm Grade poly drums are pretty much "sound" as far as safety goes. They're even used to mix and ship acids in them and come clean very easily. As long as the interior is smooth and free of abrasison you should have no worries about contaminates. Rinse it out, sun bleach it and your ready to go.
Now if you can find one that had Viagra in it you might be able to start your own ORA farm instantly.

Thanks for the info alemab3!!! I picked myself up a pair today after work.

The place is about a 1/4 mile south of the 30/41 intersection. It is on the right side of the road if you are coming south. It is across the street from an antique store.

As far as the original contents of the drums, the two that I have had magnesium sulfate in them. Others had some type of what looked to be a phosphate buffer.

did the place at the gap have other color barrels? like green, blue or black? i will need one later to make a filter for the koi pond i will be building. a nice dark, opaque one would keep the lava rock media from fouling up with green algea.
