well im setting up a 10gal. with a section for a fuge, heater and return pump all built in, the display section will be 6.2gal. what kind of horses can i put in here, i want like a pair of something, maybe dwarfs, specific species would be awsome. Also do you think a maxi-jet 400 minus head loss would be enough flow. Thanks, Dan

also i just read that you not supposed to use live rock or live sand, but i have some rock, that was dead and has been curing in a rubbermaid container for almost 2 months, can i use this since it wont have any harmful creatures on it.

is it because it might have harmful creatures on it? If so then this LR should be safe, because it was already dead, and now im curing it seperate from everything else.

The only seahorses you should put in that size tank are dwarfs. You will want more than a pair, possibly up to 12-15 horses total.

The cured dead rock will be fine. Anything you add to that tank, including snails and hermits, may carry hydroid eggs which can kill your dwarfs, which is why usually only "dead" stuff is used.

I'm not good on the plumbing aspect, but I would assume a maxijet of any size would be far too much. A lot of people use sponge filters in their dwarf tanks so the babies don't get sucked in.

If you're going to keep dwarfs, you will have to be very good at hatching BBS. There is a good dwarf forum at www.seahorse.org.

As far as feeding goes i would HIGHLY!! recomend a hatch N feed feeder from DR. Fosters and Smith for feeding baby brine shrimp. All you need to do is set it up (takes 10 minutes) and then but in eggs every day, and the shrimp will hatch and swim into the tank where your horses can eat them. You dont have to worry about decapping or the eg shells because they stay in the feeder. I have been using one for 6 months and it is AWSOME!! i only clean it once every month or so, and it makes dwarfs a breaze. They are easier to take care of than my erectus.

really i can put that many horses in that small of a tank, i think im going to wait for some CB horses instead of getting WC ones.

you can get CB ones at www.seahorse.com their dwarfs are awsome i got 4 of them, and they are doing wonderfull. They are different colors than the normal white. I got 2 yellow ones, a red one and a black one.
