Well I selected a water based 2 part epoxy figuring it would be less VOC intensive than an oil based.. That and I couldn't FIND and oil based... they might not even exist.

Anyways, be warned, that **** is strong.

First coat of paint is on the rest of the basement, I caulked the floor/wall joint in the fishroom. The caulking seemed pretty pointless as he poured the leveling concrete up past the bottom of the drywall. Still, it makes me feel better to caulk that joint before the rubber baseboard goes on.

The floor will be sealed day after tomorrow then the baseboard should hopefully go on.

I promise to try and post pictures tonight.

Can you provide more details about the baseboard? I may end up doing something similar. I want to ensure that water can't get behind my walls.

Let me outline the whole build process.

1) Used treated lumber for the framing, not the standard kiln dried stuff.
2) Stapled a layer of plastic directly to the studs.
3) Used greenboard directly to the floor.
4) On the backside blew in boric acid treated cellulose against the plastic to insulate the room, so I don't have condensation on the walls from the walls being cool if the fishroom is warm in the winter.
5) Used 2 coats of oil based primer on greenboard.
6) Used 2 part epoxy on walls.
7) Repoured the concrete floor with a leveling pour up 2 inches+ on the walls so that the floor slopes towards the center floor drain. Also has the benefit the the concrete completely sealed up any gaps at the base of the drywall.
8) Caulked the drywall/floor transition

To do:
1) Seal the concrete floor (using a colored floor sealer)
2) Install the rubber baseboard. I haven't purchased it yet, but I've seen ones that slope down the wall into the floor. I'll post a picture when I go buy it. I then plan to caulk both the top and bottom of the baseboard joint.

You've definitely covered all the bases. I'm interested in the rubber baseboard to ensure water can't get into the wall cavity. Worst case, I'll just caulk the wall/floor joint. Where did you see this? Home Depot?

I went with standard kiln dried lumber, but I used cement board instead of standard drywall. I'm priming it with Killz and then adding a waterproof epoxy paint as well. All joints will be sealed.

Some new picts to keep the critics at bay. These were from last week.

Part of the pub floor. Green quartz with silver (the metal... those that know me personally get the joke) veins:

Oh and I got the quote on all the custom woodwork for the basement. It includes the bar area, fishtank skins, skins and doors above the tank, a wall to wall bookshelf by the pool table coming down the stairs, all the paneling surrounding the pool table, and custom bathroom vanities and shelves. I'm gonna throw up. Its north of a fully equipped mustang :(

I still have to have oak caps done going down the stairs, wrap one of the lolly columns, do the oak doors and all the oak trim, along with all the windows.

There goes the kids college fund.

Yikes! You're talking $25k-$30k :eek2: That's insane! I plan to do my own skin for the stand and wall that the tank is being set into out of solid Cherry, but I enjoy woodworking and have the tools - just need to find the time. I expect to spend around a grand in materials. It's the time that adds up quickly. Funny you mention the mustang - my other money pit of a hobby!!

Well, I called them back and told them to do the bathroom, the bar, the tank, and the bookshelves. Its all being done in solid cherry.

I'm doing the hardwood paneling, the lolly column, the oak caps, the trim, and the doors. I converted the 3rd bay of my garage to a woodshop a while back so I have the tools to do it. I just don't have the time to do it ALL :)

This way the price is more manageable and I'll do the less complicated stuff. Plus I can sleep at night about the price :)

They came and measured the woodwork 3 weeks ago. I had the vanity and cabinet drawings faxed to me 2 weeks ago and I ordered those right away. Those should be done in another two weeks. I just approved the drawings yesterday for the bar, bar surround, the bar cabinets, a floor to ceiling liquor display cabinet next to the tank, the tank, and a wall to wall staggered bookshelf across from the pool table. Those will take about 6 weeks for them to manufacture. Its all made by hand.

3rd week in July I plan on taking off to do the woodwork I'm doing with my contractor. My contractors brother hand builds custom furniture in the north east. I plan to use a lot of cherry so I might be able to source a bunch from him. Even with shipping it might be cheaper than buying from my local distributor Owl Lumber. I love Owl, they have great board stock and ply to chose from, but they can be a bit pricey at times.
