600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Nice Wayne!

I am jealous with the sliding sock holder idea. I have to stick my whole body uner the tank to reach my socks!

I am looking for a new contraption.

This build is going to be special because it is built towards my disability. Everything from maintenance to water changes. Plus I'm not getting any younger. Most sumps have the holders lifting up. So I thought I'd try something different and let them slide out while not affecting operation. I'm sure you'll figure some out as you always do. Since D-day is coming upon you.

Sump was just delivered. They drilled the wrong size holes for my drains. They will fix it tomorrow.

Picked up my cleaner for my aquarium. I'm just going to replace the pads with the acrylic kits.

It's 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.

You honestly can't go wrong with a mag float. It is a tried and true staple. :-)

I have them on my glass tanks. The only thing that will suck is that its hard to find the kits for them. They make them for other magnet cleaners. I will just have to but that kit and then adjust it to this one.

I got the plumbing parts today so I can do a fresh water run on the tank. I figured that if I can get all the measuring done now that all I had to do was disconnect and put back together once the tank was moved into the room.

I started with the drain plumbing to the sump. As said before I have 2 two inch drains. The right side is tee'd and reduced to 3/4" feed to the protein skimmer.

The left side is tee"d and reduced to 1" to feed the refugium.

Now the problem comes into play.

Since the stand for the tank will be 42", the makeshift stand in the garage is to short so basically I have to finish the room and then do the test run then. Hopes shot down in a matter of hours.

I am no plumbing expert, but I would be worried about that flex hose attached to PVC at that angle.

Why are you reducing the 2inch pipes so much?
Corey

Its really not that much. OK lets figure this. The two pumps I am running are 4300 GPH. One will be feeding my fuge so not that much flow is going to be going through that. My protein skimmer need a feed of about 1300 GPH. I guesstimate that after head loss the pumps will produce about 3000 GPH each. I just have to balance the return and drain to accommodate everything. Plus each pump will feed into a reactor. The less pumps I use, the less heat I will have in the tank. A dollar saved is a dollar earned.
