600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Wayne, making some progress....I need to step up my game!

Some questions!

- What's the membrane being used for? Just coating the bottom in to hold in water for small leaks?
- Did you confirm the stand would not dip at all with some of the guys in the DIY forum? I've got steel and people were still questioning whether I should go an 8 foot span with just one support the middle. I'd consider having a single support in the middle but I'm not an engineer so cannot tell you how much it will flex. I know in the Reef Discussion forum RocketEngineer is great at answering engineer related questions and how much deflection you can expect on a board.

Not trying to be picky, just looking out for you!

Wayne,
Do you plan on capping the stand with a 3/4" plywood or better for stability? It may help keep your tank stand square over time. Just a thought...

The membrane will be used to protect he wood. Like a sealant in some ways but stronger. I will paint the whole stand inside and out with it.

Rocket Engineer personally designed that stand for me. He drew the schematics up for me because I told him I didn't want a center brace. So since he said it was good then I'm good.

I know you are looking out for me. It's all gravy in the Navy.

What do you mean by capping? You mean for the top or bottom? My tanks is acrylic so I was just going to use styrofoam to place between the stand and tank.

I'm open for better suggestions.

Got the baseboards finished. I used a PVC product. Here is a sample of what I used.

I just have to cover the nail holes.

Also the carpenter suggested a change to my stand to prevent the outer and inner 2 x 8s. Here's the additions.

Glad rocket approves. I think our stands are typically over built when we build them! Scary thing is some of the manufacture tank stands you see in the big stores.

looks great Wayne! My only question is where does the man couch go so you can sit back and watch this amazing tank??????

You are so right. I think its alos crazy when they void the warranty if you dont use their stand when the tank is probably resting on a better stand. I thinks its a loop hole to cover up if they had bad craftsmanship.

I havent thought that far in advance yet. I was trying to model what Ching Chai had in his house. I might do a bench with storage on the inside and place on each side of the room.

Expert Advice Needed on Stand

I was on another forum and someone asked if I was going to add 3/4" plywood plus Styrofoam. I know for glass tanks they use that method. When I orginally got the tank Styrofoam was between the tank and stand. What do you guy (and ladies lurking around) think?
