Not sure about this man! With gyre flow your taking advantage of the momentum the water has! By alternating at short intervals you don't benefit from this
External is the way to go, I love mine. Its so nice not having a box inside the tank.
Coast 2 Coast w/bean animal.
agreed...
Short intervals is basically randoem water flow as the Gyre will never get going and just crash into each other....
Gyre works great...takes a little time to get it right with your aquascape...but you need the momentum to build.....you would be better off with long time frames between intverals ....some even do 3 hour intervals but I would do half hours and work from there
The article is a good summary of it...

They talk about shorter intervals like 5 to 15 minutes. IMHO you end up with 2 types of flow with 15 minutes intervals. You of course get a gyre but during the switch over you get about 3-5 minutes of random flow.
I am going to use a gyre in my frag and QT tanks with just 1 powerhead and 1 direction. I also plan to cut a pipe in half and glue them in the corners to dramatically increase the flow. For your tank....maybe just do clear PVC pipe cut in half on the back wall only?
Wayne, build mine too!
One thing to remember about acrylic is external overflow still should have eurobrace over it so it could impede on total tank size.

Agree with FuzzyZipperbaum but I think that even half hour intervals are small! You need to let the momentum build and after it has built you have to bring it to zero and then build it the other way!IMHO for gyre to work you will need to alternate the flow no more than 3-4 times through out the day!
Are those water storage containers?
Nice.. I don't remember seeing them before. I have just two simple brutes...
Is one RO and one SW?
I like the pink rims too...
I like the pink rims too...
HAHAHA I am not the only one that looks in the background on all pictures.
Did you see the dust bunnies he had in those other pictures?
