600 Gallon Upgrade Build

As far as conchs go, be careful. Some can get real big. Also, the crown conch is not snail or clam safe.

I know. I had first hand experience about them. They were sold as the sand sifting version only for me to see dead shells all over my sand bed.

I agree that the sand sifting stars can be great, but only for a few months. I have a few cucumbers that I swear have died but continue to show up year after year.. and bigger.. so they must be doing something. My nassauris do great as well and have lived longer than the stars. Most of the sifting gobies ime tend to pick up sand and drop it wherever they please.. depends on the fish though.

Gobies will drop sand all over the place. I had 2 in my tank & they continuously stirred up the bottom & had crap in the water column. Strongly advise no sand sifting gobies.

Never had cucumbers as I always heard they can nuke a tank.... Most people have never had a problem with them.

Sand sifting stars are a bad idea IME. They eat all the beneficial worms that you really want to have in your sand bed - and then they starve to death. Pointless!

Watchman gobies are fine if you have a coarse sand (not the oolitic stuff) and don't litter your sand bed with corals; they do a pretty good job of moving the sand around a bit.

I have no luck with Conch. First off, they need a lot of room, but then they die on me after about a month. Not enough to eat I figure.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've had diamond gobies that stay low in the sand and have been quite successful with them.

Since it's early I might wait it out a couple more weeks so the cleanup crew will have something to eat.

WOW... got back from NC Sun night late.

Been busy working and doing my own tank stuff.

Finally had a chance to sit down and watch the video's.

Hummm.... I think you need a shrimp in there.

(HAHAHAHAHA)

Good job Wayne!

Maybe I'm a little contrarian but I wouldn't add much of a cleanup crew at all until you start seeing some film on your glass and especially on the rocks. The diatoms will run their course and show up sporadically for the better part of the first year from my experience. You may want to just let it do its' thing for now. Once the diatoms start dying off your cleanup crew will too unless there's more for them to eat. I lost a lot of nice cerith snails and hermit crabs from adding them too early. Never mind that my leopard wrasse would flip the hermits over and pluck them from their shell, only to introduce them to the Vortech MP40's propeller to mince them for a quick meal. :rolleye1:

Yes I have to place some shrimp in there. To bad my videos aren't as quality and striking as yours but I will get there one day.

Wow that's crazy. But as you pointed out Anderson saying earlier I will hold out until it's in full bloom. Thanks Alex.
