600 Gallon Upgrade Build

on and off worked succesfully for many years in the hobby before the gadgets came along. If you were to go with the cannons, you wouldnt have to turn them all on at the same time. You could stagger their on/off times by 15-30mins each.

True. That's what I did with my MHz over my old tank.

im pretty new to this, but heres the link to those leds

http://www.ecoxotic.com/cannon-pendant-100w-flood-led.html

at that price.. id expect some of the fancy controls offered by ecotech and ai

auto dimming, sun rise, sun set, moonlights is most certainly not needed by no means, but then again it does give it an edge for being innovative and makes the overall use of the lights more enjoyable.

since your spending the money anyways why not!

Spending the money doesn't mean anything if I don't get the right effect or color for my pleasure.

IMO, doing the cannons and hyrdas would be overkill and a waste of money. You will duplicate the white led's by using both of them. I would either go with the cannons and then supplement with t5/vho or led strips. Buildmyled.com makes a really nice super actinic strip and they now offer a purple strip. They come dimmable via apex right out of the box so you will get your dawn/dusk effect. Just my .02

I see I've been behind the led curve. I have to follow up on that. Thanks Steve.

Glad you found the leak, nothing like having the drip pan in the sump. Mine has saved me many times!

Love the school of chromis you have!

Thanks. Usually by this time they would've dwindled but they are all present and accounted for. As for the leak, the wife saver has proven itself once again.

agreed but on ai and ecotech at least you can fine tune the color for that exact reason.. with one big led, your really limited to just dimming the unit as one whole channel unless the provided drivers have mutli channel dimming?

there have been a handful of great diy multi chip leds, but these guys are powering strings within that led individually. im not sure if something like that led your looking at can offer that

Thanks kmo. How is your tank coming along?

Well, I flooded the basement with 65 gallons of water a few weeks ago. However all is back to normal and doing well. A snail crawled into the overflow on my frag tank. I hadn't made a cover for the end of the durso. Live and learn.

Glad you found the leak on yours. Smart move with the floor protection.

Kris.

Hey Wayne.

Got a question for you on this sump build:
What is the diameter of the holes used to hold the 7" filter socks?
I assume you have this running by now - do you see any water going through that filter sock baffle and bypassing your socks?

Thanks!

I didn't have this one made but thinking about it as time goes. I know they one they built for me was 6 7/8 in diameter and the water will flow through the socks and the lip is there incase the socks overflow. The baffles are also done wrong in the pic as they should be flipped.

Cool thanks! I drew up some plans for a new one. I drew them out to 6 3/4". I do believe with this new info - I'll up that size.

From reading your thread - you build your own acrylic stuff huh? I'd like to get several prices locally if I could - but usually the one store I hit seems to be pretty honest about it.

If you can't find a place try plastics America on Adamo Dr. I took the a design a long time ago. And they cut everything for me to spec.

In the beginning I was DIYing alot of things. Then my injuries started to affect me and I just went through a local LFS and had all my work done. Depending on where you live I was dealing with a acrylic place not to far me me named Farco Plastics off Bryan Dairy.

Update

Update

Its been over weeks since running full ZeoVit to my tank. I have just finished the 14 day cycle and the diatom bloom has erupted.

The only problem I am experiencing is high phosphates which are reading .25. The zeoheads think I am experiencing this is because the top 4 (meaning the zeolites, zeobac, zeofood7, and zeostart3) has changed. Instead of using zeofood7 I should be using sponge power. Apparently the PDFs that i used hasn't been updated. Zeofood7 is supposed to be used when the system becomes ultra low in nutrients.

Sponge power is designed for filter feeders such as sponges, tridacna clams and sea squirts.

Increased growth of filter feeding species
Supports increased water processing and ultimately water quality
Longer colored tip portions of SPS corals
Purple enhancements in SPS corals
Improves recovery of damaged corals

They also suggested that I use Biomate. The responsibilities of biomate is:

Reduce mulm deposits
Reduce phosphate
Clean Live Rock and substrates

I will be purchasing these next week and they say that it should take about 2 weeks and the phosphates will decrease. So we will see whats up until then.

Happy Holidays and wishing you a very Happy New Year.:celeb3::celeb3::celeb3:
