600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Pellets, mysis, brine, some algae flakes, HPD so far. Gonna try the clams on half shell today.

Thats great, mine is still on just clams and will eat nori on occasion. They are big eaters and need to eat all day long. The streamers on mine are all grown back and he looks amazing swimming through the tank.

The Moorish Idols are one of my favorite fish. Glad to see you got it eating! At first, all mine would eat were sponges and live brine. Now they will eat anything and everything.

Great addition!

Yes it is one of my favorite dream fish. The only thing I hate about this hobby is cycling through a specific fish until you get one to eat or survive. I know a lot of it plays a role in the way the fish are caught, handled, or transported and if or when acclimated. I hope they could be aqua cultured in the future.

I can't wait to add mine to my DT. He has about another two weeks in QT because I want him to be fat and healthy.

I agree. I've been through three Achilles tangs and have given up for now. I hate loosing a fish, regardless of it's cost.

My preference is always to buy established fish from other reefers, but those are not always easy to come by and when available, it's usually due to aggression or other issues.

Wayne, I am still a big fan of the Radions. You can't go wrong with a good quality LED! Your electric bills will appreciate it too!

I still wanna go all LEDs but still thinking of some type of hybrid. Lighting is still dependent on budget. LEDs are running circles around my little fragile mind.

With your tank being so deep front to back you will be looking at some big $$ to get the light intensity you will probably want.
Actual coverage is 84"L x 36"W x 24"H.
Can you explain what you mean by this?

If I was starting over with lighting for my system I would likely go with the ATI hybrid - LED & T5 combo. That said, although I don't like the power bill I am still a big fan of MH and use a mix of them along with T5's in my display tank. Oldude = Oldschool.

If you just want to cover 36" front to back you have a lot of LED options, since radions and the hydra 52s both cover about 36"x36". If you want to cover your tank front to back you'll probably have to have two rows of lights, so it'll get expensive.

I guess it would depend how high you want to hang the Radions but at about 9" above the water my coverage is about 24"x24" so in my opinion with a single row you would be pushing it.

Either way I go I am looking at 8 fixtures easy, 10 might be overkill. That's depends on everyone's definition of overkill. Or should I say surely safe coverage.

I have a 96" x 36" I am hoping to light with 4 hydra 52s. As long as I don't have a spotlight effect I think I'll be good but we will see, since I haven't gotten them mounted and in the tank yet.

AI said 6 would be good for my system. Plus 2 for the frag tank.
