6000 gallon system - Project.

wow this tank is going to be awesome! I (and everyone else on this board) dream about having a tank like this one day in my home. Ofcourse it'll require not only a lot of money, but an entirely different home lol. For the big display, I'd love to see a school of Pilot fish of about 11. I know it's going into a restaurant so they'll probably want mature fish, but imagine how cool a huge tank like this would be with juvenile fish! I was at Aquatic outlet today and in their 6000 gallon tank, there was an odd schooling going on. a blacktip was leading the charge with about 5 jacks and 3 unicorn tangs in tow and bringing up the rear was a giant puffer. They were schooling for the 10 minutes that I was watching. A huge panther grouper would join the group occassionally, but then would bow out and play with some of the other fish in the tank. Then I went and looked at some stuff, ended up buying water.

Lol--What a great post! There was this fascinating account of a mixed-species schooling
immediately followed by a bit of a grocery list and a dying-out of the message alltogether.
sorry, but I just got tickled by that.
I'm also in favor of a couple of massive schools of small fish... It would make the tank look huge.
And then I went to brush my teeth.

"And then I went to brush my teeth."

 ROFLMAO!!

Great project James! I miss those large builds.

When will the restaurant open and where? Can I bring a net & cooler with me to dinner? I promise to leave a big tip if I "net" something in their tank.

Thanks.

Restaurant is scheduled to open on September 1st in Simpsonville, SC.

They will be watching for folks with nets and snorkels... ;)

There's a restaurant in Minneapolis called Tiburon Caribbean Bistro that has a 45-foot long snaking salt-water aquarium (from what I remember 3 years ago it was fish-only). I believe it was about 30" deep and must have been at least a couple of feet in width throughout. Don't think the volume is quite as large as 6000 gal (maybe 2000?).

For some reason their website doesn't have any photos of the aquarium:

Here's an image I found elsewhere:

Very impressive tank- This will be a great setup to watch.

Out of curiosity- did Tenecor make the tank? It looks like their building in the background of the pics that show the tank being built and loaded?

I dont understand the reason for not telling.

You could always call the restaurant when it opens to find out. Establishments like that are more than eager to spill the beans on lavish projects such as this. I saw an article on cnn.com a few months ago talking about how projects like this are the "thing" to do. Everyone is trying to out do everyone else and they want people to know how costly it was.

I can understand why the builder wouldn't share the price.

I think the tank may be bigger than my house. :D
