6045 nano stream problems

I need Rodger's help. I have a 6045 that I purchased approx. 3 weeks ago. I noticed the other day that it will not start by itself after unplugging. I have to poke the propeller and it will start immediately. This has happened everytime I unplug and plug it back in. Now just a few minutes ago it started making a loud noise. I can see the propellar shaft is wobbling and not spinning true. I have unplugged it so as not to cause any damage to the unit. Unfortunately this is my only powerhead / circulation in my 38 gal. tank. Rodger please give me your input for fixing my powerhead, I am not very DIY savy. I know you provide great customer support due to my forum lurking habits. Please help.

The shaft is broken. Take it out and you can still run the pump without the metal shaft for a while, just will be a little noiser. Then get a motor replacement from Roger.

I took it apart after reading Justin74's post. I also had same concerns about the two halves not properly seated upon opening the box. Two of my teeth broke off the mounting bracket during initial installation as Justin74 posted. Be careful fellow reefers, they are very thin and fragile. I have been very happy with the flow the unit produces. But not at all happy with finding out I have to "jump start" the unit every time I unplug the it. Upon inspection and careful evaluation of Rodger's reply to Justin74's post it appears my shaft has also snapped. I can see the white washer with the lower portion of the shaft still inside the back half of the unit and the upper portion is still inside the magnet and propeller section. Rodger, do I send the unit to you or back to Premium Aquatics. I know Jeremy also provides excellent customer support as well as you do.

Thanks for your quick response jacmyoung. Will running the unit without the shaft damage it. As you know these aren't cheap, but I don't want my Fromia starfish, blood shrimp, tiny brittle starfish or other critters to die. My setup is a simple invert for now. The only other circulation I have is my Bakpak2 HOB skimmer and I just put my old Zoo Med powerhead, 200 gph, in the tank.

I would remove the shaft from the prop assembly and run it to see how noisy it is, if it is quiet, I wouldn't worry too much since this is temporary.

Hi Headbanger,

I see you are in Dallas? I will send you a PM and we will get this straightened out.
