Ill put one to gether and post pics in the next few days. It is super easy and works great.

Great. I really appreciate it. I would much rather put one together than to pay the price for what they want for one.

Thanks again,

Bradd

Melev,

Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s good to be back, I finally got home from Iraq the day before thanksgiving. The tank looked great and the rotating return is still working like a champ after a year of no maintenance. I can say its ready for a good cleaning.

Greg

Welcome home then. You escaped some danger, that's for sure.

Looking forward to the pictures when you have the time.

I wasn't ready to revisit this one yet. but here goes

$4.00 sprinkler from the standard places Lowes HD I think i got the last one from Ace.

Cut off legs and arms with a Dremel tool as shown by the red lines. the base should be trimed to fit in a 1/2 PVC elbow I used a 3/4 to 1/2 because of my 3/4 return. the end where the arms came off will need to fit into a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe 1/2" long it needs to be a square cut so I used my table saw.
It should look like this when you are done

Glue the section of 1/2" PVC pipe 1/2" long on the end where the arms came off. I used Oatleys All Purpose Cement thats good for PVC and ABS.

Let that set over night to insure that the glue is good and dry.

sorry about the size of first pic, but I guess you cant miss what type of sprinkler and where to make the cuts.
Since I shortened the elbow I needed to bore out the stop in the elbow so that the pipe would go in farther. to do this I used a sanding drum on the Dremel.

Glue the 1/2" PVC elbow and sprinkler together but not the bent pipe because you will need to adjust it to get the right rotation out of it.

Next I took a 3/8" drill bit and reamed out the center of the sprinkler and a 1/2" bit to open up the pipe in the elbow to the to allow more flow. I cut about half of the 1/2" PVC elbow off so it doesn't extend so far into the tank, this is not required only for aesthetics.

I heat up a section of 1/2" PVC with a propane torch and bend it to about 45 degrees then cut it off in the middle of the bend.

If you trimmed the fat end of the sprinkler right it will fit snug into the other 1/2" PVC elbow and you will not have to glue this, it will be much easer to clean this way.

It has worked well for years, I have been doing it for over 6 years and have only had to rebuild it twice.

It works real well on a long tank like on a 75 or 90, and will make a nice rocking motion.

I take it off and soak in vinegar every few months or when it starts to slow down.

I have been real busy with my 150 build and haven't gotten around to it I took the pics about 8 months ago.

Check out how the build is going click on the red house.

Where's the site? Does anyone have a link? The author's instructions for locating his site don't make any sense to me at all.

Very cool. This is the oldest revived post I've ever seen, and well worth it. :)

Also thanks for your military service, it is very much appreciated.

armagedon, I didn't think this thing would ever die. I have gotten a few PMs for the link to the old web page and when you bumped the thread I knew I had to post the pics or I would get bombarded with PMs.

nanorfj, Old who are you calling old?:) It has been a few years hasn't it. The good news is the thing is built proof once you get it dialed in it will last for years with very little maintenance.

Your welcome.

Can you show a picture of the "sea swirl" on you tank in action? I am a little confused as to how it is positioned on the tank.

Also, do you know which brand the sprinkler is?

BTW great idea!
