Hey Greg, cool idea. Just one problem though, THE LINKS DON'T WORK! Nah, Just kidding. I do have a few questions as far as your setup goes though. In your second pic, with the unit assembled, I think I see a small hole in the straight pipe feeding the swirl. Is that just a spot or does it serve a purpose? Also you said yrs ago that you are using a mag12 to drive it. Did you plumb that from your sump. If so, how. Not that I couldn't figure something out for myself. Just curios how a diy mastermind did it.

Yes I have used a Mag 7 up to a Mag 12 on an AGA RR 75, you can plumb it many ways from the sump or on a closed loop...... I am currently using a Velocity T4 for return from the sump it comes Via 3/4" PVC through the bottom of the corner overflow, to a 90 over the top of the overflow halfway across the back of the tank to a 90 then along the center brace to the center of the tank.
I think with much more than 1000gph you loose / waste too much from the head pressure, being that the flow through the center is only 3/8 of an inch and then opens back to 1/2" My current set up goes from 3/4 to 1/2 to 3/8 (the sprinkler) then 1/2, So I am giving up a lot of flow now.
The hole is to break the siphon when the pump is off, It may not be necessary if you have room in the sump for all the back flow or if you use a check valve.
It might do ok, but I think you would be adding a lot of head pressure.
I have seen good flow and a nice rocking wave in a 75 with just the sprinkler and a Mag 7. I would see how you like the water movement with just one sprinkler before I built 2 and tried them both on a scwd.
I know this is an old thread, but just had to say thank you. Just built one and love it. Figured I would bump it. You never know who might be interested in it again.
It produces a nice wave action. If I look at the top corners of the tank I can see the water rocking up and down about 1/2 inch. Nice rhythmic motion. Coral polyps seam to sway back and forth as well.
