On a more serious note... my RO/DI produces clean 0ppm water... but when it finally gets into the storage bin for ATO, its between 001 and 019ppm... dust and dirt between transfers??

Thanks Cap'n. Although I don't understand what you meant by "great aquascaping tim"

LOL who knows, maybe he thinks this is my thread!

I love how you have different areas in your aquascape. The shelfs, caves, and pillars are all great places. If you do want a mixed reef I would try to get the high flow on the open shelfs and get a few low flow areas for the softies and LPS.

How long are going to keep the shrimp in there?

Have you thought about modifying the Koralias and running them on a maxijet timer?

Right now I have all the flow aimed at or near the surface... the side with the 2 Koralia 4's has both at the top but in different directions... the return nozzle is aimed at the corner in the same direction and the one Koralia 3 is aimed in the opposite direction at the glass.... I'm getting flow all around the tank with more at the top but how much is a alot of flow for an SPS like acropora, tricolor, etc.. I was planning on LPS and SPS with one star polyp on it's own rock to help stop spreading a bit.

I also like ricordeas, frogspawn, hammer, torch, etc...

I assume I leave the shrimp in there until I get an ammonia reading... then take it out correct? Thanks for the comments Tim.

I originally wanted islands, but it turned out this way and it isn't too bad. It will fill out I'm sure in time.

What type of container are you using for RO/DI storage?

Must be some leftover dust or dirt that I can't see in it.... the ppm went down from 19 to 14 when I added some more water..... it was at 39ppm in the saltwater storage bin... I'm going to dump it out and wipe it with a paper towel than try again... worked nicely on the other bin I had. Although anything under <10ppm is acceptable.

Rubbermaid.

I think tswifty uses a brute. That's what I use at least. I also go the wheeled dolly to help move the 32 gallons of water. :) But I am just a bit lazy. Keep us posted with pics. It's always nice to see other setups. I really like this one. I admit I'm a bit jealous.

Do you aerate the water or have anything in the water to keep it circulating.

also is the container HDPE or LDPE grade?

Tim is correct, I use a Rubbermaid Brute container. It is LDPE grade.

I'll see how things go with a clean in the container... I use a vinyl hose I got from Home Depot to transport water. Same water was 0ppm in one container, 001ppm and 039ppm in 3 different containers... so some dirt somewhere. I'll keep posting pictures timschmidt no worries. I will have lots of questions I'm sure.

So the plan is now to take readings for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and once I see ammonia, remove the shrimp?

I can't find a description of what it is made out of. It will say on the bottom of the can along with the recycle code.

The reason is that containers that are not LDPE/HDPE grades can leech phosphates back into the water, and jump your TDS.

Is there a particular reason why you're storing saltwater?

Future Water changes:D

How far in between each change would it sit?

I'm not sure how long salt water can be stored... or if there could be issues from storing it for an extended period of time.

I would ask around about it. I know I'm hesitant about my RO/DI water, and only try to store about a week's worth at a time.

Ah good point. I have read a couple of weeks is fine (tank of the month article). At this point it isn't salt, but just RO/DI in that container... but good point nonetheless on the storage length... I'm going to try and figure out the TDS issue tomorrow by rinsing and filling the container again as well as measuring the TDS right from the output hose.
