75g sps build thread

Have you tried running radiums? I bet that would bring out some real nice colors out. I used som many different bulbs and always battled with colors and finally gave in and switched. All most all my sps look 10x more vibrant.

what power heads are you currently using??
Right now I have a modded MJ600, a Evo 1050 and 2 Korilia 2s for flow.

No my reflectors are 250W DE so I can not run Radiums. I have used a few different bulbs and I like the Oddysea 20Ks, I have been running them for a while with good results.
Nice tank! Do you know your po4 level?
Thank you. Nope I do not have a good po4 test kit as of right now. I do run po4 remover 24/7 and a 24/7 light fuge. My po4 has always tested at 0.00 (Hanna) so I dont test very much anymore. I will be getting a Red Sea po4 kit soon though just because I know I should have a good po4 test.

Little update. I found an acro that had AEFW bits and I found eggs. I have since removed the effected corals and have been keeping a close eye out and so far so good. I started to have issues with the BB setup so I added sand back to the tank. It looks so much better with the sand. I still need to add more. All corals are doing well minus one that has lost color and is stning from the bottom up, dont know whats going on with it but keeping a close eye on it.

I have also seen a trend in my sps and their color. Some will shift colors a bit every few weeks. My pink BN does it the most, going from pink to brown and back to pink. I will be taking some pics here soon.

The choice was made for me. The sand had a bunch of iron in it. Like it was California beach sand or something. So I had to remove it. I have since put new sand back in the tank. IME BB is just to unstable and a pain to keep to bottom clean.

Hi,

You mentioned that BB tank is kind of unstable. I was wondering what you mean by unstable? is it hard to keep alk and cal at a certain level? or it hard to keep nitrate down?

It is harder to control no3 and algae is harder to control and alk is less stable. JME.

Really?, When I had a sand bottom, I was continually battling NO3.(detritus buildup in the sand) When I went bb, NO3 became undetectable w/ salifert. I do agree on the alk being a little more unstable w/ bb compared to sand, at least for me. Wasn't bad, just had to monitor it a lttle more closely. Like the look of sand way better.

Ok little update. Sorry no new pics, I am having some algae issues. As I just said I am having algae issues mostly bubble algae and some tough stuff that looks like green moss and of coarse the red cotton candy fluff algae. I am as always running GFO but I need to get more, I just did a large 25g water change and did some major algae removal. I have discovered AEFW so I am dealing with that just when I finally was getting and keeping good color. Everything is growing and doing pretty well aside from the AEFW and what they have effected just some bight marks and a little color lose. In fact I am out of room again and this tank is not even a year old yet. I have pretty much no room for more corals! Again I need a bigger tank.
