getting ready to do a water change....

Just read through your thread. It's nice to see the improvement of your tank and your picture taking at the same time. Nice job!

Haha, I quite agree that both have improved. Continue to keep the tank as stable as possible and in 6 months time you will see a much better and healthier tank, as well as more colour in the SPS corals.

Yeah for sure. I am getting some crazy colors, camera cant get them. Leaving the tank on auto pilot from now on.

yeah man the colors are starting to come. I went through the same thing with my corals, started nailing that alk at 9 and things started to come around.

Have not tested alk in about a week week and a half but it has been stable at 9-10. Got to love kalk in ATO.

Went into Petsmart to get food for the frsh water fish tank so I figured I would check out the salt stuff. They where clearancing out Coralife salt for $22 for a bucket. Needing salt really soon I bought it, could not pass up the price. After mixing to 1.025 here is the result
Ca 500
Alk 12
Mag 1100
Not to bad at all just needed to bump up mag a bit.

Well I added more flow to my tank, the sand bed was getting dirty. So I added my modded MJ600 for a total of 50X turn over, now my sand bed moves around a bit. Color and growth are still great, pic update coming soon.

Well sorry no updated pics. My tank looks kind of crappy right now, having some small algae issues. I think because my no3 as bee around 10ppm for a while. Trying to get it back down below 5ppm. My PB died, got ich and now my clowns have it. Cant catch any of them with out removing rock. They are mean little fish so If they dont make it I will be getting some different fish, mostly small nano fish, wrasses and gobies. The tank could use some fishless time anyways to help let no3 come down. I really need to get a Hanna po4 tester to check my po4 levels, they have always been at or near 0 but with the algae I doubt that now. Corals are all still doing well and I can see that a decrease in no3 will bring out even more color. Been thinking on going o bio pellets again but my last try t a UNLS was to to great.

Well this sucks. Woke up yesterday to see my red and green war coral half dead, the red half my fav. Well what happened was coral warfare plane and simple. My orange acan was right next to the war coral and I guess the acan decided the war coral had grown to close to. Sad to see a huge section of bare skeleton on such a healthy coral, it was growing really well. I hope to see it recover soon.
I did a large clean up of the tank, scrapped algae and did a 15g water change. All in hopes of bringing the no3 down and reducing the algae and I think I have green slim as well.

Wow what the heck sorry for the triple post, dont know why that happened.
So I figured I would go ahead and take some more pics. No3 is coming down since I have pretty much stopped feeding my fish, they are still doing fine. In fact the clowns are looking good now, no signs of illness. I am thinking about maybe running bip pellets but I may just stick with GFO and carbon. Still dealing with some algae but I hope as the tank gets a bit older it will go away, its at about that age where is has another algae bloom before not having algae issues. Any ways now to some new pics.

The coral with the purple tips in front of the birdsnest. what is that? My dad gave me the same kind and have no idea what it is do you? I really like it the tips on mine are a sweet bright purple with a green base.

sucks about the pb kicking the bucket. I havetried to keep that fish two times and can't do it. both times it got velvet and died. next thing you know all my fish had it and ended up restocking my tank twice. I almost quit reefing after the second time.

I followed your old thread and it looks like you dont have the pale/not much colour issue here, so thats good. Keep up with the tank maintenance.

Dont switch to bio pellets just yet. Give the tank at least another 3 months, maybe 6 if you can, and with time and maintenance nutrients should decrease and with tank maturation together that should result in better colours.

I think it might be a purple nana but not sure.

Deff looking good, Color is coming in for sure. My experience with bio pellets are only good and I would recommend them to anybody in a heartbeat. Ive run them from the get go on my last two setups and its nothing but great reviews from me.

Although Its almost always best to leave a tank alone if you are getting good results. If it works leave it!
