9 new Banger additions

I am feeding live bbs and frozen bbs.I will wait a couple of more weeks and cut down on the live and try some frozen cyclopeze. They are about 1/2'' long now.

IME I wish I would have gotten mine off of NH BBS earlier than I did. My first few batches that I went too long with it, I could tell. I had SFS happening all too often. The last batch I had much more success with. Are you gut loading the BBS as well? I was feeding the BBS phyto on hours ~36 - 72. I would then have a new batch ready for feeding time. If you aren't gut loading, I wouldn't recommend feeding the BBS much past that 36 - 48 hour mark or you may start seeing SFS. I have never had as many as you have at one time. It must be thrilling. I know it was for me as I watched them grow. You'll miss them when they are gone too. I called the LFS store this week to see how mine were doing, he told me they were all doing fine with the transition to his tanks and were all feeding voraciously. I hope they sell to a good reefer or breeder.

How long did you feed the babies enriched bbs? Not to sound like the noobie that I am. I don't understand how long you were feeding bbs.
Our babies are 9 days old now. At 7 days we introduced cyclopeeze along with bbs.
They are eating both now 3 times a day. They still are in the nursey boxes too.
When do you think I should let them out of the nursery?

I was still feeding NHBS at the 3 month mark, that's what I meant by going too long. I just realized that it's possible that you may have misunderstood my statements in regards to the age of the BBS instead of the baby Banggai. If that's the case, sorry for the confusion. I was mixing in frozen Rots and cyclopeeze at that time. I was also trying to get them onto Otohime. it was a struggle for sure.

I assume you are keeping them in the nursery because of them being so small and perhaps in a community tank? if so I would keep them seperated. At that age they will be food for anything that can get them in their mouth.

Thanks reggiepe :)
I didn't understand how long you were feeding the babies NHBS :o

We actually set up a 10g for the daddy, so when he released the babies they would be in a 10g by themselves, but the babies were so tiny I felt like we could spot feed them better in the nursery, we still have the daddy in the 10g to put some weight on him. We are also trying to catch his mate and put those 2 in the 10g for breeding.

We have a 8'x18' fish room and we have been talking about setting up the some type of holding tanks for the parents and babies, you know like the kind you see when you visit your LFS... we have a few ideas working right now. We actually have 2 mated pairs :)

We are very interested in breeding a few babies from each set of parents so we will have no in breeding.
Thanks for all your help, and best of luck with your babies!

Just put up a ReefBrite LED over the display. I was trying to get a picture of the corals and how it was making them pop and one of my males came to investigate.

Thought I'd share.....

This evening I have 7 Bangers. Long story short, I went back to my LFS back on the 19th of November to see what he had new in the store and I saw that he still had two left from the 5 I sold him back in late September. Lo and behold the last two were a male and a female and the male was holding. After a long conversation between myself and the manager we decided that I would take the pair back and give him two from the babies. He wasn't going to be able to do anything with the babies when they were released and he felt sure that anyone that bought them would probably stress the male out and he would either swallow or spit the eggs. So for the next hour we slowly caught them with minimal stress and got them in a bucket. Took them home and slowly acclimated them to my son's 12 gallon nano tank. One of the problems was the he had no idea how long the male was holding. Just said that it wasn't eating right and he had hoped it wasn't sick. Well he wasn't sick :)

Tonight I noticed that the male was tucked back into some rocks and I thought that is a good place for him to get stuck and die. So I got him out with a couple of pumps from a turkey baster. Stacked the rocks up so that he couldn't easily get back in behind. Just happen to glance and saw one, then another, then another. He kept releasing until we were up to 7. I was proud of that poppa. I usually don't have good luck at all with the males forst batch. So the 7 are now in the nano inside a refugium. The Brine shrimp eggs are tumbling away. I should be able to feed by tomorrow evening at this time. Hopefully get time for a few pics tomorrow nite too. G'nite all.

Good grief! I get home from work and he's holding again. Talk about a fertile and frisky pair. I usually don't like to allow the male to hold for two consecutive times. But I am going to give it a shot. I am hoping that if he becomes hungry that he will eat the batch. Keeping a close eye. If he starts to look bad, I will strip him and tumble the eggs. Here are some pics of the frisky parents.

Not anymore! He swallowed them. Which I am glad he did. That would be just way too long to go with only one meal. Hopefully I can get a good weeks worth of meals in him before she jumps him again. My 13 year old tells me that I need to introduce them to some birth control...I say No way :-)

My Duncan ate my baby!!

My Duncan ate my baby!!

Popping in for an update. Sadly, I am down to 4 Babies as of today. Within the first week I lost one of them due to what seemed like a possible birth issue. It just never acted right and was always breathing heavily. Fast forward to today with me getting home from work and I find the breeders net over a little sideways. I am not sure what happened, but I had magnets holding it in place and I had only 2 in the net. Panic sets in and I start looking. I see one that has perished by unknown reasons. It is basically between the breeders net and the glass of the tank. There is another on in there live aand well. The chase is on....and I capture him. 4 accounted for so far. I look and see another one just kind of hoering in a corner. Scoop him up. 5 accounted for. I search high and lo and cannot find the last one. I had all but given up to the fact that when they get out of the breeders net there is a 20 couple year old half blind Clarkii clown, that has been with me since my earliest days of saltwater, that will pounce and destroy on anything that moves in his territory....including hands and fingers :) I go hang my coat up and have one more look and what does my gaze fall upon...this little scenario:
