Hi Folks,
Some of you did some question about my reef, and here we go with the answer
:
1 - Why did you do a upgrade to a new reef tank ?
I had to change my reef to a new local , and the acroporas was too large
that a need to put them in a large tank. I canÃ"šÃ‚´t clean my glass in the old
tank, there was no space between the glass and the acroporas.....
2 - Why did you change your system, from Jaubert to DSB ?
When I was setting up my new tank, the old one was still running and he was
with 3 years old. At this time in the old tank , I had a problem with
fosfate, a high level os fosfate.....I find out that my Jaubert had a
problem because was a lot of fosfate in the halimeda. When I removed all the
halimeda in the old tank, the halimeda was so dirty that I canÃ"šÃ‚´t believe
that you can have a health reef with a lot of dirty inside halimeda.....
ThatÃ"šÃ‚´s why I set up a new one with DSB.....My new tank has 2 years old and
the DSB is still clean.....
3 - Do you put any suplement in your reef ?
I keep my reef with a calcium reactor and kalkwasser...sometimes a put a
suplement ( Koralvit Combi ) , but this is not regular and I do not have a
rule....
4 - Do you feed your corals ?
I never feed my corals....at this moment IÃ"šÃ‚´m trying Phytoplan....but I
didnÃ"šÃ‚´t see any change until now
5 - Do you bought frags or a colony of your acroporas ?
Most of them was frags...a little frags...These frags became the colony that
you can see in the photos...some acroporas has 8 years old....
6 - Do you never did any water change in your new tank ? Why ?
When I was a beginner, I did regular water change in my first reef. But I
always had a problem with algae and my reef was dominate by algae. The
experts told me that I had to do a water change to solve my problem with
algae, so I did a 50% water change...but the algae still was there....
When I was thinking in give up, I didnÃ"šÃ‚´t take care about my reef for a
period....for my surprise, in 3 months with any water change my reef was
clean, the algae gone. So I think that a lot of water change can unbalance
your reef. Since this period, I didnÃ"šÃ‚´t do any water change...for 2
years....and the corals and the reef never look so good.
In my new tank , I never did any water change....and the reef has 2 years. I
Think with you have a good skimmer, strong light and calcium, your acroporas
will grow and thrive
There is no rule for me in change water....I didnÃ"šÃ‚´t do any water change
until now because I think that is not necessary right now.....but I can do
one day.....
Next month I will add a new sump to the reef, the size is 260g
Regards,
Carlinhos.
