A Few of my SPS

Hey Nick, the tank and corals are amazing!!!!! Would you mind sharing a little more about your system and what if anything do you dose? How often do you water changes and anything else that you do to produce such amazing corals would be great to know!!!!

Thank you, Steve. LOTS of praying to the SPS god! :spin1:

I hope that I don't jinx myself, but I believe that I have been really fortunate. The only thing I dose is Kalk thru my ATO. My calcium and alkalinity is maintain by the kalk stirrer and calcium reactor.

Weekly, I do a 20gallons water change. If I know that I will be doing the water change on Saturday. I turn off my skimmer Friday night and feed a table spoon of Oyster Feast. Then, Saturday morning, I perform my water change. During my water change, I will blast each SPS with a MJ1200.

Monthly, I change my GFO.

That's pretty much it.

Nothing like keeping it simple. What do you feed your fish on a daily basis?

I used to feed only once a day and would alternate with the following: flakes, pellets (out of at the moment), brine, mysis, bloodworms and cyclopeeze.

Recently, with the kindness and help of a friend. I have introduced 3 Tuka Anthias which require multiple feedings during the day; therefore, I have also been feeding Nutramar Ova in addition what is listed above.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Took some pictures with my cell today. Pictures quality are not the greatest, but I thought I'd share and update this thread. Hope everyone approve.

What are the dimensions of that beautiful tank?
Thanks

Nick all I can say is that your tank is amazing. I can attest to the quality of your corals since I own a very very large frog spawn colony that you had for a long time. Since I bought it from you a year ago it has continued to produce new heads and grow.

it sounds like your running 400w Radiums right now and some acctinic supps....

I am looking to switch to radium 20k or Ushio 14K or Aquastar14k and then use t-5 supps....

Have you tried any of these other bulbs for color comparison?

I have tried Ushio 14K. Based on my perception, this bulb is too yellow. I am not certain, but it could be the ballast that I am using.

I'm sorry, but I no knowledge of Aquastar.

As for supplementation, I have used VHO, T5's and LED strips.
a. I was happy with VHO.
b. T5's that I've used were ATI Blue +. Based on my perception, these are too dark once the MH are off.
c. LED Strips. It could be the brand that I am using, but based on my perception. These strips are useless. To my believe, supplement lighting is suppose to help our corals pop. Unfortunately, the only color that pop with these strips are green. :-(

Future plans: I will be adding 2 T5's - Giesemann Pure Actinics in addition to what I am currently running.

Hi Stonecold,

you mentioned that you blast the coral each week with MJ1200. Do you only blast the rock that the corals are on or actually blast the coral itself full speed with MJ1200? Wouldn't the MJ1200 be too powerful and peel off their skins?

Thanks,
Bao

I blast both my rocks and SPS at full speed. The distance between the MJ's nozzle and my SPS would be about a quarter of an inch. I would slowly rotate the MJ all around the entire frag/colony. I have done this for a while and have yet to seen any loss in tissues. I could be wrong, but loss of tissue would be a result of an unhealthy SPS or one keep pointing directly at 1 spot for several minutes.

beautiful tank!!!!
Thank you!!!!

Congratulations!
All your SPS are beautiful and with a lot of health.
Keep the post updated and good luck.
