What kind of flow and light do you have on you montipora Setosa Greg? I picked up a couple of frags from a fellow reefer a couple of months ago and can't quite find the right placement in the tank for it. Yours looks fantastic so I thought you would be the best person to ask :)

That colony is about 6 inches across & is in a rather chaotic flow area where a couple of power heads converge on each other and it is under T5's about 15 inches below the surface. I find if I give it stronger lighting it tends to turn more pinkish than bright orange.

Thank you Greg, I've been finding the exact same issue too in the way of light with the setosa. Now you've given me and idea I think I have the perfect spot with good flow and lower in the tank :thumbsup

Thanks again Scotty :)

Love the packed look. What size tank is that? Looking Great!

Thanks very much. Yes I prefer the look of a packed reef because I think it makes it look more natural. I have never been accused of being a minimalist. :)
The tank is about 400 gallons.

this small colony of A.loripes is located beside the pink chalice next to the large Hydnophora colony on the LH side of the FTS. Help to put things in perspective in the 8 ft span of the shot.

Just read the whole thread and druled my way through all the pics.
Oldude you got it going on up there! I'm setting up a little 93 cube. How long have you had some of the large colonies? What size were they when you acquired them?

Thanks very much. Some colonies I've had for years and some of the other larger pieces I bought from two seperate reefers who were both getting out of the hobby. That said most corals have really grown a lot since I did my "do-over" last year. Some of the colonies I got from them were grown from frags they had got from me previously.:fun4:

Very Beautiful Tank im gonna have too take some pic of my SpS tank when I get Home, I just purchase some Reef Raft corals and got my hands on Jawdropper acro RR

Yes I agree, in my opinion it is quite an interesting piece. That said that picture is top down view of a section that only makes up a small portion of the actual colony.
really nice Greg...lot I like that rainbow loripes looking acro..

These pieces are still coloring up but I thought the contrast between the two made for a cool picture

This coral has had a hard life - almost lost it about a year ago. It has been very slow to color back up - eight months just to get from brown to what you see here and still has a ways to go.

Yoy really made me cry this time greg....that's not nice buddy:(:(:(:p

What ever you are doing, your corals seem to loooove it!
They look awesome, plus you have one of the best selection of them!
Can't pic my favorite:bum:

Any new "magic tricks" or you enjoy your good old routines?

Thanks once again for your generous remarks. One new thing I started dosing "color elements" (just dosed last night for the 2nd time - once per week) and I hope it will help. According to Claude from Fauna Marin it is supposed to help the corals absorb the elements they need more effectively by creating a spike with the weekly dose to give them a bump and produce better color. The "spike" idea goes against the normal sps husbandry practices but it is supposed to work with these trace elements. I will post my observations here so stay tuned. I actually noticed a slight improvement this past week but can't say for sure if it from dosing color elements or not. I think it will take at least a month to know for sure.

Very nice Greg I don't know how much better you can make the colors ..I like the smooth skin acro also I am always on a look out for them..

Danny..
