Oh the fish tank is always gonna be about bling any pet is when you boil it down to its core. I wouldnt have bought this chiller but the deal was too good to pass up for what it was. Guy used it on a 500 gal display in a retuarant and it ran for 6 years until the compressor blew. They paid $2700 new for it. I got it all said for $164.00 new compressor from Grainger is $240. Being that its so large and over rated for my 300 + gal. ssytem it wont have to run so much which in the long run will save me a few bucks by not having a smaller unit that runs constantly. Its got a digital contoroler and its inline not a drop in which makes it all that much nicer. Shrouding is trashed so Im fabricating up some SS shrouding for it. Not my top priority at the moment. I just tore into it last night to see whats what. Typical Copeland 1 HP single phase compressor with R22. Nothing special. Chillers are so ovepriced its ridiculous. For what they are and what they do its alot of cash. I may end up selling it in the end and making a few bucks off it or trading it for some lights.
That festial looks right up my alley. I do miss the hunting up north, Id say thats one of the biggest things other than the food.
I used to hunt everything back home, here we got deer but they look like big dogs no 200 lb'ers. Got wild boar if you dont mind trudging thru the swamp risking a Moccasin bite or gator attack to get one. Meat is not that great though. Really need to use catch dogs pen them up for a few months and treat them with anit-biotics and fatten them up before you take one for the grill.
Thats what most of the crackers down here do. They use pit bulls to catch a hog and then pen raise it and fatten it up run some good grain thru it before they slaughter it to clean up the taste of the meat and get it nice and fat.
We got birds Turkey, Quail , ducks, other than that not much else but fishing. They dog hunt down here which is like 15 head of dogs chasing one poor little scrawny deer to death where 5 rednecks flank it with high powered rifles and blast it into swiss cheese. Not my idea of hunting at all. I cashed out most of my hunting gear for salt water fishing gear. Seemd to be the best trade off. Its a waste here unless you duck hunt then the Game wardens are thick as thieves and they got you in binoculars for one green winged tiel too many and they are confiscating your gear. On the other hand 1 Shark will feed you for months. Ive done well on the water here.. Kingfish, Grouper, shrimp, crab, Red Snapper, Sea Trout, Sea Bass all packed up in my Meat locker. Shrimp and crab runnning down here now. Might head out Fri and get 5 lbs this weekend. Too much goin on but its a once a year deal eithier you go or you go with out.
I make wine too once a year I turn out 40 gallons of red for the family. I just recently started building a working still in my garage. Yea I know BOOM!!!!, but I dont heat I freeze off my spirits so its safe lol. I got a meat locker in the house that fits a 5 gal. vat then I just pour off the booze and strain it out and I can make about 1 gal in a few months time of high grade good ole boy swill which is legal for personal consumption.
Been making booze for about 7 years now. I live about 3 miles from a winery so it almost doesnt pan out in dollars and time anymore. I have to make it in the summer when the AC is on to keep the temp stable otherwise it flucuates to much and spoils my brew. Never tried beer just wine and shine. Booze is cheap here too no deposit on beer and you can get it anywhere. I like a good stout Lager like Groulsch my preference but hard to find here in the sticks. I havent had a Labatts Blue or XXX since i left Detroit eithier. Iron City beer forget it. This is Budweiser country sonce they got Sea World I think they got hte market cornered here. you want anything special your gonna have to go looking for it. i found 1 bar 15 miles from me that has 150 beers to choose from but I rarely make the trek for that drunk.
