A little advise.

A little advise.

Should I add more flow? I turned off the rw8 because even at its lowest setting it was moving the pvc. I have a couple of small pumps with like 100 gph from freshwater, should I throw those in?

Day 4:
Still hiding, came out to eat and then couldnt find the pvc and is hiding in a corner...
I am actually quite worried. So I did another 50% water change to see if that would help, but he is still hiding. Do all fish always hide durjng QT??

A little advise.

Do you have lights on? Also, how are you mixing the water? I'm worried that you are making too many changes and he hasn't had a chance to settle down. In my 10 gallon qt I use a hob filter rated at 200 gph. On my 20 gallon qt I use the same filter and add an airstone. That's it. The first few days it is normal to hide. I think that you might be overdoing it with the water changes, different equipment, constantly watching and trying to feed. Also, do you have any fake plants left from freshwater? I always put those in my qt and it seems to help

I the only thing I am really changing a lot is flow, although I see your point. Lights go on for 30 minutes at like 8:30 for me to just see him and look how hes doing. I do have fake plants, should I put them in? I mix the water by using a 20 gal brute trash can and then throwing one of my rw8s in there along with a heater..

Water changes stress all my fish except the clowns. I would do water changes as needed. I think having some flow is a good thing. I guess one thing I'd suggest is go with something and stick with it. Constant changes are gonna keep him stressed imo.

How long does it mix for? I would have ambient light in the room with the tank light off. And yes, rinse one of the fake plants off and add it in there. Or a few of them. Gives more things to hide behind and he can watch you while feeling more secure because he feels hidden

All good points. I would just add that the less light I have on my Qt the less active the fish, unless it is a more nocturnal fish.

I would not worry about to much flow, within reason, fishes can usually handle flow pretty good.

My water mixes for 24 hours. I made a 20 gallon batch and have been just doing 5 gallon water changes. I have 10 gallons left

I know, i should leave it alone I just want him to do well, and I am scared hes not very happy..

So fishin are you saying I should keep the lights on?

I typically just use ambient light initially for the QT. I was trying to say that at lower lighting the fish might not move around as much as you would think or typically use to seeing. IMO for a lot of fishes lower light means time to hide out.

Personally I think lower lighting helps the fish to relax a bit when initially put into a QT. Over the course of the QT I will increase lighting until it matches my DT lighting cycle.

A little advise.

This is how my qt looks currently.
The little dude is just chillin in the back corner, you can see him in the picture. The rw 8 in the right corner is off, and I have a small 170 gph powerhead on the right.
I feel like he is fine, but am a little worried since he was swimming around at the lfs.

Any suggestions/ critiques are very much appreciated :) be as blunt as you want.

I think the tank looks fine. The fish looks like he has some good color. If your parameters are fine and the little guy is not breathing hard or losing color, I think you will be fine.

honestly I think your more stressed than the fish

:)

That is 100% true. I don't want my first fish to die in QT.. How am I supposed to explain getting a 120$ bristletooth tang to my parents?

Little dude still in the back corner, seems to be breathing a bit heavy when I look at him. Should I turn on the rw8? Give him lots of oxygen?

:)
I watched jurassic world and had an icee and popcorn. Hope that counts ;)

Little bud came to the front of the glass now, still looks pretty dang scared, but realizes I am food now. Ate hikari with no garlic today.

That's a small fish with a lot of open water to contend with.. he's bound to be a bit timid. Get him a friend or two... Safety in numbers and it'll build his confidence! Or chuck in some more hiding places. :reading:
