That's a small fish with a lot of open water to contend with.. he's bound to be a bit timid. Get him a friend or two... Safety in numbers and it'll build his confidence! Or chuck in some more hiding places. :reading:

I will add more hiding places, but won't other fish not be too nice to the damsel? I don't think I want to add anything else, already too stressed about the easiest fish to take care of in sw :worried:

Would you like to be alone in a big *** room with nothing in it for days on end.. or would you like some familiar faces around?

Seriously.. I have 6 of these beauties.. and the only time they 'squabble' is when one wants the others hole.. they swim in open water with absolutely no squabbling at all. Damsels are not naturally solitary fish. They don't fight, they assert themselves.

I'm surprised that no one has any comment about a damsel going in a tank first.. but they are a territorial fish, youre's has a whole tank to himself.. He may become the pain if he thinks it's all his space

Damsels are terrible fish and at some point it will **** you off not to mention if you did add more fish...the damsel would more than likely be aggressive towards them...they are bullies and are almost impossible to remove without taking out all rock work

Oh yes, I have heard lots about how bad damsels are.... I am still not 100% sure if I am going to put this bad boy in my display, more just trying out options, and if worst comes to worst, I can return him for a 80% refund... So not really worried about that

I allude to adding the damsel on the first page by saying the most agressive fish should be added last and wasn't sure what the OP had planned for the rest of his mates.

I think the OP is going through enough stress with this one fish in QT I don't think he should be adding in more fish at the moment. Plus then he hits the reset button on the QT process.

Yes BBT, you really need to think about what fish you want in your tank. Put in your mind's eye what you envision for your tank and go with that. If this damsel doesn't fit in with looks and personality bring it back for a refund/credit. You and the damsel will be better for it.

Yeah, you all make great points. Im leaning toward returning the little dude, after I get him through an observational QT. theres no wasted money on meds, and I get the knowledge for the mccoskers wrasse that I am going to qt next...

I agree with your trial run approach. Workout any kinks in your protocol and put any apprehension you may have about QT at ease. A lot of wrasses are a bit more sensitive in the QT.

A bit more than the damsel I am guessing

I feel kind of bad, I mean I am keeping the damsel for a couple more weeks but returning him just feels plain old mean.. Kind of like I'm abandoning him..

I wish I could find a McCoskers locally. The only lfs I have is Petco and have to drive an hour each way. Any other decent/good lfs are 2 -3 hours or more EACH WAY> So it's shipping and ordering online for me.

If I see a LFS that is a few hours away I look to see if anything of interest is in the area. Then I suggest a long weekend at a B&B. Then it is hey look a fish store I wonder what they got. Mrs. Fishin is wise to the game but she plays along. :lolspin:

I've actually done this. THis is how I got my Cherub angel and my Hector's goby. My Percula's were rescue from Petco. I got really lucky with them they are perfect and a complete match. I should say we are both lucky.

Thankfully, my local petco ended its saltwater selection. I think my 26 complaints to their management (not kidding) may have had something to do with it. Honestly, they put a purple and an a powder blue tang in the same small acrylic divider. Purple looked beat! I was enraged and ripped their employees. Sadly, most people don't take a 15 year old very seriously... :angryfire::angryfire:

Sadly,begging my parents to take me to CO Springs (3 hr round trip) has not made them budge. Something about "being fish crazy" and "this is an addiction" making them not too happy to take me I don't think your idea will work, but hey lets try it

Day 5: Gobbled down hikari mysis this morning, hid all day according to my dad. He freaked because he couldn't see the damsel and was so sad, thought it jumped. Turns out he was just in the PVC. He was still hiding, so I decided not to feed. He survived three days without food, what is one evening?
Just a question to you damsel owners out there(I know you are there!!!!)
Did your damsels always stay at the bottom of the tank? The only time I have ever seen him above the halfway mark on the 10 is when I threw him in.. Any experiences would be helpful!

Damsels seem to have been made out to be nightmare fish.. They're really not as bad as all that! As said before I have had them in my current set-up all 6 as a group for nearly 2 years, with a Flame Angel, a Xmas Wrasse, 2 Picasso Clowns, Royal Gramma, Hawkfish, Diamond watchman Goby, couple of shrimp and they are a pleasure.. they add a nice activity to the tank, along with great colour and they're not aggressive at all!

I do have 1 that likes the royal gramma's hole, but there's nothing more than a little showing off followed by a "swim away" once the Royal Gramma moves him on.

When you pruchased the Damsel I bet it wasn't in a tank on its own with a sign 'watch your fingers' was it? lol
