A Low Country Reef Tank....one more final upgrade

That's some great flow Steve. I have to imagine that with all of that live rock you aren't really going to see a cycle. Were you ghost feeding it at all.

Only when I remembered to . There were a few pieces of rock that had mushrooms and rics on them and they all survived. The tank had no lights on it and I pulled one piece out that had some mushrooms on it. I put it on the dt just to see if they were still alive and sure enough they were.

Just got caught up on the new system, looks great Steve! I keep reading that closed loops are a thing of the past, your video shows why they are still unbeatable when done correctly!

Thanks Muttley!!!! I wanted to do closed loop on my last tank but I let myself get talked out of it and regretted it afterwards. It was definitely more expensive to set up the closed loop and power consumption will be higher than power heads...but after seeing the flow in the tank it is all worth it to me!

Now that you got both flow wolfs up and running, how do you think the flow is on the closed loop? Do you think it could be stronger? Lighter? Just right? You got a few more holes in your tank then I do, but your tank is almost similar to mine. I got Lucas to custom make my flow wolfs to allow for more flow with my 6250's, so Im anxious to see what that flow is going to be like...

I won't know for sure until I get some corals in there but my initial impressions are that there is more than enough flow and think I will have to turn the closed loops back a little. I am struggling a little with the flex nozels for the closed loop....they aren't staying in the positions that I set them in so I am looking for some alternatives for those.

Why thank you Henry!!!!! And how are things coming along on your end??????

LOL You are being funny :). I have zero corals but did manage to find 2 mushrooms and 6 or so acans heads that have survived my tank crash. After the repeated large water changes I think I am now headed in the right direction . Maybe I will take a picture of the tank and revive my thread...lol.

a little update....

a little update....

So shrimp has been in for over a week now and getting mushy. I have not detected any ammonia or nitrites yet but do have 2-5ppm nitrates. Is it possible that with 350 lbs of live rock and 250 lbs of dry rock that I won't see a cycle?

I spent the day today cleaning things up and trying to organize my supplies. I have a lot of leftover fittings that need to go back...should see a nice refund from lowes! I still need to clean up a lot of the wires in the fish room but heres a picture of it all set up......

Hi Steve What kind of skimmer is shown above and is it also for the DT ? asking to see how well your main skimmer will work and compare it to the performance of my huge skimmer.

That's the reef octopus regal 300ext skimmer and is my only skimmer on the system. So far it's doing a great job and easy to adjust! What size system is your skimmer rated for?

The skimmer dimensions are approx = H=47", Transitional piece 8", Vertical neck = 18"
Diameter approx = A foot or a bit less
