Doug, just remember to reset the cable modem when you switch PCs.

The username/password is ususally with DSL not cable.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm also having a similar problem with our cable modem. It keeps dropping the internet connection. I've repaired and forced a connection, but it is a PITA.
If I call OOL, will they just give me a new router, or do I have to beg and plead with them?

Also, a small bit of information to add. Cordless phones can sometimes cause interference with Wireless routers. Usually the fix is to switch the router setting from 802.11g to 802.11g (vise versa)

Cordless phones will almost always inhibit a wireless router in some way. Bill if it is not a optimumvoice router then you can swap it out on your own at a walk in center. If its voice a tech has to.

Easiest way to resolve cordless phone router issues is to move the base away from the router and by base I mean cordless base. Sometimes this doesn't work check the broad cast freq the router is sending on and change it either up or down 1 the newer firmware on the routers allow for this and that should help
 
I have Vonage instead of OV its 10 a month cheaper and Bob Dolan gets enough of my cash every month LOL That being said i had alot of problems that were attributed to cable. I had techs here several days in the same week as i was losing packets and having dropped calls constantly. My problem worked out to be water in the connection to the pole. It was a hassle calling cable constantly especailly being the problem was intermittent. Sense the water was discovered i have 0 problems now :) I use a router and there are atleast 2 out of a possible 4 computers running at most times. I dont however have a spare router to lend you however :(
 
Funny- after flawless service for about 3 years, my service went bad about a year ago. It almost never went out - but it did slow down to being completely useless. After a lot of crap, i finally got someone to come out and it they checked it and I had 99% packet loss. They traced it back and it was water in the connection into the house. As it would freeze and thaw my connection would go from ok to unusuable. I would have said water earlier- but I'm assuming they fixed it well enough so it wouldnt happen a year later...

You also have to understand that your Cable connection is a shared service. As demand ramps up, bandwidth throttles down. I don't know the numbers, but I'm sure more than 50% of your neighbors have a cable modem. This is why cablevision has historically cracked down on users making large downloads. (Napster, WinMX, Bit Torrent...porn)

Is this the post you were referring to a few minutes ago on AIM? I am not surprised that I completely missed the hidden meeting.

Apparently I don't have the latest code book either.

Either way, good luck --- everything happens for a reason they say. BTW, who the h*ck are "they"?? And, what makes them so omniscient?
