A Reef in the Sky

I agree with the addition of the LR Andrew (and always kind of hoped you would do it), I think what you're describing is the right choice in regards to the long term. The extra places for corals has gotta be of benefit, especially with that top-notch stuff you get over there in HK!

What kind of clams did you get? :)
Thanks N0rk.. I am seeing some colouring up on a few corals which are placed on the new rockwork. Time will tell.
The clams are similar to the last batch I got... I think?

Awesome set up . Do you have a link , for the winch , you used for your lighting ?
Thanks. Sorry, no link but I can PM you the details of my tank builder who got the lifter for me.

I like (as far as what you described) the LR choice... especially if it doesn't negate your "minimalist look".

And did you say more clams?!?!?! That's what I like to hear... can't wait for some pics of the updated rock and clams!
Thanks Chad, so far so good. I think it looks good. Pics below, let me know what you think.

hope all is well with you buddy. so there's where youve been hibernating at lately thats keeping you from posting updates (at least at the zeovit forum) :)

still top notch colors and everything buddy! you have to save me some of those frags for my visit! :)

best regards,
Thanks Vic, hope all is well with you too. I will update there too... just can't find the time I used to nowadays.

Looking great... love the polyp extension on all of your corals.

So are the new clam additions on the left side of the tank?

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Well what a year it has been. I'd like to say a big thank you to all of you that have followed the journey along the way.

I should be able to get some new pics posted in the new year plus some pics of the little Christmas present I got for the tank :)

All I can say is that things continue to improve with the tank.

Cheers Boss... Merry Christmas to you too.

The frags are growing

Mind sharing or showing how the JG Feeder works? or do you have it hooked up to the doser??
Sorry, I don't have that reactor anymore. It wasn't performing (mixing the stones) to the standard I was after.
I never used the JG feeder when it was set up as I preferred to manually dose.

v1,

I recently went full blown zeo on my tank.

I see you're running an needle wheel/pinwheel skimmer. Do you buy into what the zeo guys say, how these skimmers are not zooplankton friendly?

The all seem to recommend the KZ skimmers or a becket/venturi type skimmer.

I have a pinwheel skimmer also (atb 840 v2).

This is probably my favorite tank ever. I LOVE the aquascaping and it just looks so beautiful! Bravo, well done.

This will be inspiration for my new 75, if only mine will be half as good!

Hey Andrew, I may have missed it earlier in the thread... How high did your Alk Spike and outside of burnt tips, were there any other symptoms you noticed?

Hi JG1. I was also aware of this when researching. There were many great Zeo tanks that were using BK skimmers so I also elected to get one. Most recommend the KZ skimmers but cost $$$. I would stick with what you have

Wow, this tank seems to be bouncing back great! I hate Alk spikes... They're a pain in the butt
Thanks... so far so good

Hi Jonathan.. Happy New Year.

I am not 100% sure. When I realized that it was an ALK spike I tested and it read 145 (LaMotte test kit). I suspect it peaked higher than that though.
The main symptom I noticed (not sure whether it was related or not) was the tips of some Acro's had a white stringy stuff from them. Plus my PH was unusually high (8.4-8.5)

Did the white stringy things you observed coming from your SPS look like this:

Thats a zoomed in picture of one of my Monti digi's after a supposed alk spike. I posted a thread about it in the SPS forum and they said it was my corals discharging zooxanthellae, so if you observed the same thing that means it is likely my problems were also due to an alk spike. Speaking of which, you're alk of 145, do you know what that converts to in dKh?

V1 - Awesome Build Thread - Very inspiring on the use of minimalism and creating a modern tank layout.

If I ever get a chance to redo my 250g system I think I would go your route too.

Great work.
