A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

I'd like to get a controller but the prices are prohibiting. Haha lol, no I haven't mate, but I was bored:lol:. So your planning on getting more wrasses? You must be going soft:lmao:

Looks great Biggles I like wrasses I guess I am a big softy...I am still contemplating on putting sand back because I like having wrasses in my tank...colors of your acros are getting more crazy bright and the wrasses looks beautiful. .

Biggles, perform some magic and make those Anthias disappear.

Finally Biggles gets wrasses for his tank!!! You've turned bloody soft mate. Kevin is too cudly for you...I think you need a tougher pet. :)

Now that you've got them, what do you think?

I love 'em mate ! :) Watching them swimming in and out of the acros looking for food gives incredible color contrast and i need some recommendations for more since my little guys will be lost in the new tank lol. Can you have more than one banana wrasse because they glow yellow like the tang - i like blue acros so bright yellow is an obvious fish color lol.

Yep i'm going to go fish crazy in the peninsula Rory.

The wrasses look sweet!

Thanks mate, the banana wrasse sleeps under the front of the red Cynarina front left in the display and every morning i get to sit with a coffee and watch his bright yellow head pop up with a brilliant red background - David bloody Attenborough couldn't get a better shot if he tried i reckon lol. I'll try to get a video of him popping out if he keeps sleeping in the same spot.

Thanks Dan, GET SAND !!!! lol.

Oh don't worry Sahin, both those annoying twerps are going. I might put Ratboy down in the sump reef and see how he goes once the new bigger sump is running.

My current planned lighting for the display is 2 x 400W Radiums, 6 x 54W T5's and 3 x 24W T5's. The sump DSB reef will have 1 x 250W Radium and 6 x 24W T5's.
I have room for a 60x26" footprint sump so i should be able to allocate at least 30x26" for the DSB reef. I plan to have almost no rock covering this sand bed and try to establish something of a flat tabling scape over the DSB. It will function efficiently as a DSB allowing water to flow over the sand and under the acros and should look pretty nice if i pick the right colors to place over the sand. :) Anyway that gives you an idea of just how full on i'm going to make the entire system in regards to SPS.

I'd recommend a multicolor fairy and/or a orangeback fairy like mine. I'm thinking about adding another wrasse, but I'm not sure if my one will like new wrasses? You could have a trio of Flasher's or fairy's with a dominant male and his two wives, that is what I'd love to do if my tank was bigger. You'll be able to see natural behavior with a wrasse trio and the male will absolutely glow as he's trying to impress the girls.

I'll look into those, thanks Rory

I took out the WP-40 on the left end and put the Tunze 6095 where it was. I then added another RW-8 and placed it on the right end where the 6095 was previously before it replaced the WP-40 - not the other RW-8 which i didn't move unlike the 6095 and the WP-40 which were both moved although the WP-40 was removed rather than moved like the 6095 and the RW-8 - the moved RW-8 i mean, not the unmoved RW-8. :spin2:

Anyway the point is my sand has stayed put for 24 hours so i laid out some flubber mines........:p

I wish you werent halfway across the world biggles or else i wouldve begged to be allowed over to drool at your tank in person. Love your wit to my friend.

This might interest some of you.

It took me three tries but i finally managed to get two different color variants of SSC to co-exist. By co-exist i mean one is going to overgrow the other one with no stinging hopefully. The small frag is much more cream and pink whereas the larger SSC is mint green with more red polyps. I've never seen one acro able to lay out mesenterial filaments over the polyps of another without one or the other attacking the rival. This happens daily for extended periods and so far neither acro looks to be stinging the other.
Anyway it should be interesting to see how the whole thing grows out over time - SSC Frankenstein.

The seri has not managed to make friends with the red milli as you can see by the white branches lol. I dropped the cutters onto the SSC earlier which is why there are broken off tips top center of the pic [/QUOTE]

I love this shot.. On one hand its a cute shot of two corals hugging in harmonious bliss but on the other hand it's the cold reach of a potential death grip..
Biggles your tank is so damn good and your plans are even better, when this thing comestogether, it'll be spectacular.
You are going to be running a lot of big lights on the tank and the sump.. How are you going to manage heat issues in the summer months?

Nice to see the RW8's in there. I've got two RW10's on order to replace my WP25's, maybe, or add to them. Or maybe add one to replace another, or keep both, or come up with a new place to put one or the other. Hard to get flow everywhere in my 6 foot tank.

Tank continues to look fantastic of course, I'm always looking forward to more pictures.

Thanks very much mate :)

You lost me halfway through the pump talk bit mate:crazy1:

I could explain it in more detail Rory...........:D

So true about those two acros Matt, one or the other will ultimately prevail lol.
Thanks for the nice words mate, i hope to make the peninsula something special :)

Top right in the pic is a big reverse cycle air conditioner which will be about 8 ft from the peninsula once it's in position closer to where the current tank is - no temp issues ever for my tanks although there's a rather large hole in the ozone layer developing over my house........ :p

Thanks Mark, i like the RW pumps a lot more than the WP series. The much more open grills allow the pumps to perform better for longer i think.

Here's a pic for you, rainy Sunday so i went for a drive to Willy.......

Those are some sexy pieces.... Good score!

Thanks Greg, i was over the moon as soon as i saw that fine branched blue stag, i think the other piece might be a purple/blue tipped granulosa. If anyone has a better ID especially on the stag i'd be grateful :) Both are intact colonies that will be getting split down the middle.

Now i should point out that i only went to Williamstown aquarium to see Jack about the tank quote. He wasn't there but Keith & Cameron were so i asked what they thought of my shop tour on RC, in particular their wizardy boss........ you haven't seen two guys searching the net as fast as your guys Jack - they're both extremely efficient workers ! All three of us were laughing WITH you mate, not at you
With no prompting whatsoever they quickly decided that printing out the wizard pic and sticking it up was a great idea - not only damn efficient but they use their initiative and can think on the run. :)

Now i asked Keith about this milli because i don't want a bleached red milli i want a stressed out pink one. 'that milli is pink ' 'are you sure it's not a bleached red' 'i'm pretty sure it's pink'

Did you spot the subtle shift from 'it is' to 'i'm pretty sure'................. obviously i still bought it because if i wish hard enough it might be pink and Keith supplied the stunning electric pink milli frag i bought a while back.
I now class Keith as an expert on pink milli's due to his frag so if this thing ain't pink i'm pretty sure you're going to hear about it Keith. :p

Hey Biggles, do you have any videos with all the pumps on, so I can get an idea of the flow in your current tank?

Biggles I am so jealous of your new setup mate.

400w Radiums...6xT5 tubes... This would be my dream lighting setup.

I love how much more space you are going to have mate. New tank size makes Acro hoarding much easier. :p

Can you please track colour changes in these corals...they havent come in super coloured, and it would be interesting to see how long and how much they colour up.

Can't wait to see what that stag lools like when its settled in and growing! If it gets a nice color in the branches that would be sweeeeet.

Yeah, what he said! Love the granulosa looking one on the right. Biggles, your beginning to hoard acros.. You may have a problem..
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Matt, i'm trying to get all the good ones out of the ocean before you get stuck in :p
I think that acro is actually A. Rosaria due to the branch growth pattern and corallites, i actually bought it because i think i've had one previously and it ended up with ice blue branches and purple corallite lips - it was a tad sexy can i tell you lol. Low to med light for all the loripes, granulosa, rosaria etc is the best spot for max pigmentation from my own experiences. I know they have all hated high light and 'greyed' out if you know what i mean Matt. Not brown but that dirty weird off light grey sorta kinda lol.......:crazy1:

Hey Biggles, do you have any videos with all the pumps on, so I can get an idea of the flow in your current tank?

Hey Mark, no i don't but this weekend i'll make one with a food dump so you can see the flow in the display mate. :)

Don't forget the triple 24W T5's across the end - don't want to leave any gaps for the acros to jump out ;)
The tank will be 66x32x20" but i will be losing 5-6" at the wall end with the side to side overflow but that still leaves me with a 60 x 32" rectangle with no visible overflow box for the first time so nice clean lines. I'll prob use part of the overflow for some live rock - it will be a refuge/overflow zone since it will hold a lot of water which needn't go to waste :)

I'll show you how those acros change once settled in for a couple of weeks. All had ok PE the first night so they should settle in and color quickly with luck.

Can't wait to see what that stag lools like when its settled in and growing! If it gets a nice color in the branches that would be sweeeeet.

As soon as i saw it i started smiling like an idot mate, i'm sure you know the feeling :) The largest branches are only 1/4" dia and just look a bit thicker due to the mass of long bushy radial corallites, the tips are 1/16" if they're lucky. It's the most twiggy and delicate stag i've seen in my travels. I'm going to chop it up tomorrow and place it in low, med & high light spots.

You can see the lack of light purple or blue pigments you'd expect to see with a night flash shot of a light blue stag. In contrast the acros behind it are rich with pigments. The tricolor is stinging and overgrowing the little pink stylo, the all fluoro lime table is ridiculous day or night :)

Very nice Biggles:). That is A LOT of light mate, I would say that you don't need to have I light turned on to light the room, as the tank would do a good job. My tank lights the room quite nicely and my mom uses the light spill to read books
