A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

The previous journal used to have like at east 10 pics of the tank and corals per page...now we get 1 image (repeatedly quoted) on the same page...

We need more pics Biggles. :)

Id be careful Sahin, you're in a glass house, throwing stones...

Beautiful pic Andrew, thanks for all the great info

Thanks Mike, just remember that all my 'great info' is merely my opinion based on my own reefing experiences.

I definitely second all of this, I haven't been to Williamstown very much though, might make a trip on the weekend to check it out a little further!

You should definitely start dropping into Williamstown more often Dom, i went there the other day and they were giving away a free fungia if you spent over $100- on corals. I asked the young guy serving me how much more i had to spend to NOT have to take a piece flubber home.... he just stared at me with a perplexed look lol.

Gorgeous shot.

+1,awesome pic andrew!

Thanks Mark and Mike :)

Thanks Dom and Andrew. The two stores I actually use are Willy town and Daves. I live over on Point Cook so I'm lucky that I don't need to travel far to get to them.

Agree with what you've both wrote and have had a few frags from Keith at Willys which I've found to be fantastic quality.

Hopefully I'll bump into you both next time I'm in the shop, can't miss me, I think I'm the only Geordie* Reefer this side of Melbourne.

* Geordie is someone from Newcastle, UK, also known as the land of the Newcastle Brown Ale or as I like to know it as "Gods country" ;)

I went to Willy last Sunday Ben and there were three SSC branches in the SPS tanks for sale mate so i'd suggest that's the place to go if you want to get that acro you've been chasing for months.

My god man! You guys down under are hooked up with the best! A microclados with ssc colours Delivery of my new MH delayed by 2 weeks :mad2: Did receive the long box today with the ATI B+ and C+ so I guess a small step forward. Photo bomb us with a few more pics like the last one Andrew

That sucks about the delay on your new halide unit mate, at least you have the T5's now so you can chuck that Giesemann lighting rig over the display as soon as you get your hands on it.

Andrew if you say "no fiji purple""¦.I will follow your recommendation

I am only speaking of the purple bulbs in relation to supplementing a Radium halide buddy, i can't speak of its usefulness when used in conjunction with other lighting choices.

Your tank is looking great as always, I can't wait to see the updated pictures with sand.

Thanks Josh :)

Sand!?!
Did I hear sand?!?
Bring it on, biggles!!

This is starting to look like a clear case of sand bullying by you lot lol.

I 2nd what Matt says, SAND and updated photo mate :)

Yep, you're a sand bully too Perry.......

Did you get the Gyre yet?

No i haven't Mike, i have been saving up for a bucket of salt so that might give you an indication of just how long it will be before i can upgrade my pumps. I'm no longer sold on the gyre after receiving some advice from a good mate on here who's opinion i trust. ;)

I'm waiting for my new camera to arrive actually - iphone 6 lol.

thats before he was famous:lmao:

Any 'fame' is totally unwarranted Ryan lol.

The best info comes through experience  I'll be running the Hamilton Cebu Sun this time around. I ran a G-Mann with 400's on my 120 which worked great but the MH's are in pockets vs. the Hamilton that uses one big reflector. My tank is 84" so I need maximum spread out of the 72" fixture  What was the issue with the Gyre? I set one up one the weekend and really like it. That last bit with the sheep, PRICELESS :lolspin:

You're very right about using the info from fellow reefers who have half a clue what they're talking about. ;)
I'd love to have one of those Giesemann units but they're just way too far out of my price range. If i could afford another single bulb + 4 x T5 unit like Dom's that we wired up for the Radium last Saturday i would have locked him out of the house once he put his unit on the kitchen bench and called the police to have him removed from my yard lol........ i was blown away by how solid and well made the thing was. (If you were a real mate you'd give me that light unit Dom :p)

I just think the gyre's are not suited to a system containing hundreds and hundreds of small snails that infest the pumps and everything else at night in my reef. Coupled with the fact that only being able to run a single unit on one wall due to my desire to have a real peninsula display i think the acros at the very far end of the 5ft display will get way too much flow that is in one constant direction. I just don't have the cash to take a chance on a single pump that will set me back $400- and chew up about 3 months worth of reefing budget mate. Next year there will be a massive increase in my reef play money allowance so you never know i might try one then, when i can afford to throw it out the back door without tears lol.

He did have a glint in his eye when I first put the unit down on the bench :uhoh2: I got him back by poisoning him though :lolspin:
Since wiring the Radium in and changing the bulbs, this **** is unreal! :eek1: definitely would recommend it to anyone lol You'll be pleased to know the frags settled really well :D I accidentally broke the second branch of SSC off the frag lol it's okay I have three SSC in different spots now ;) The tank is LOVING the extra flow though... well maybe not the sandbed :hammer:

I'm sure he did mate. Those Giesemann units are awesome. Just be careful if he starts trying to convince you need to change out to LED's...

Andrew mate, how yellow is that damn fine looking acro? I bought a yellow acro frag some time ago...but the damn thing turned green after a while.

I'm glad the frags settled in well Dom, that pair of RW-8's i gave you to use might have a tad more oomph than those 4's you were using lol. I reckon you'd get more flow by drowning a butterfly in the tank than what those RW-4's put out.........;)

Hey buddy, i didn't do a great job of correcting that pic but it's basically white skinned with yellow corallites but that's just from stress. It will end up white and green just like yours lol. I actually bought it specifically with the second tank in mind as i am going to make a pastel reef and i know exactly which acros to target for those eye popping zeo colors. This little guy has blue skinned branches as you can see but i'm not sure if it's a bleached purple or washed out blue yet. Almost zero PE on both still but i'm not surprised as most of their SPS stock was RTN/STN'ing - i tested the bag water when i got home - 1.0230

Same here ... picked up a bit of the purple/blue plating monti, although I can't say I saw any SSC ... unless they'd browned out and weren't showing the colours.

I was there around 1ish I think.

Will be popping across tomorrow when they get their coral stock in and hopefully grab a piece.

If you have no luck tomorrow you can always pop around and pick up the one i bought for you at 11am mate :p

It's all good either way Ben so don't feel like you have to take it, i don't mind having eleven SSC colonies in the peninsula. :)

Hi Andrew,

I got my hands on a tub of Reef-roids this afternoon. I know you mentioned this somewhere in your old tank thread, but would you mind reminding me how you use this food to feed your acroporas and how often you use it.

Cheers

Bulent

LOL,
My SSC is the size of a thumbnail, and I am all stoked on it, 11 colonies.... BIGGLES.....I feel like Matt right now....
