A Splash of Color

'Pink Moose' has taken my breath away.

If only I were able to get one of these one day.

Thanks for sharing Andrew.

I hope you come across a similar piece too mate :)

Every echi i see is a classic icefire variant. Blue and white skin to varying degrees. They all have the same reddish brown hue on the branch skin with blue tips. Sometimes they actually look pure white and blue which is just bad bleaching so don't be fooled into thinking you scored a crazy stunner that will be easy to hold crisp colors on. The reddy brown hues normally accompanying the blue highlights are zoa and the blue is pigment. Zoa always get blown off before the pigments fade when fresh collected stuff is really stressed. Look at how bleached the pink branch was when i first brought it home.
In my experience it is easier to color up a piece with brown hues still present than it is to nurse a much more bleached but amazing looking pastel stunner.

Trap for young players.... and don't ever be put off buying a tanned skinned pale echi piece as long as you can still see some blue hints at the tips it will color up fast so grab it if it's a good price. I always put them in medium light, the light a SSC would like. If everyihng else in the tank is relatively happy and you have no PE after days it's the flow. They look twiggy and delicate because they came from a gentle flow area of the reef. The growth on wild stuff will give you a good pointer as to where it came from under the water.

This echi had hints of teal green on the skin instead of any brown type hue which i haven't ever come across before, pale blue tips and white polyps instead of the usual pale brown ones the wild ech's i see have normally. If Matt could photograph it for me you would see the beautiful yellowish hues and detail on the branch skin. The polyps are coloring up in a cool way after 5 months doing diddly squat but it's not growing yet. It receives very, very gentle flow as the tips are only about 1/16" and i want to try and hold the super delicate growth if possible.

Wow Andrew,
That pink coral is off the charts beautiful!!!
I also love the display, you cannot see any rock in the tank, just acros on top of acros, so sweet man :)

It's just silly. Pure and simple silliness!! :inlove: You are the acro maestro and your tank is a symphony of colour! lol

Absolutely crack-a-lackin'

The latest photo looks lovely Andrew. I hate clowns by the way.
Clownfish are not funny!

Great shots buddy. Has your growth taken off? I can definitely tell your color is holding! Now keep posting all the porn!

Hey Scott, just take it slow mate and things won't go pear shaped on you i'm sure :)

Thanks Conor, yes they are stopping the acros from encrusting so i'm going to do as someone suggested a while back and poison the whole lot of them with a tank treatment. I'm certain they are contributing to the slow growth on some of the older happy looking acros that are swamped at the base with polyps overhanging them all day to shade the growing edges - $%#@$# flubber !

Now, Dave sent pieces of my fireworks, Spooky Mike and Bulent's Bliss to Chris at Sustainable Reef's to grow out, frag and send overseas down the track so Mike and Bulent might one day be able to get hold of their own acros in person - that's the plan anyway

I lost my colony of Matt's Madness ages ago and have finally chosen the replacement.

Hm.. pink moose. Whatev.... I've see better..
(holy jumping Jesus, that piece is blowing my frickin' mind!!! Damn Aussies get all the good pieces!! I hate them....aaaaarrrrgggggg!!!!)
You know, saying us Canadians always have the sh!ts over nothing is just rude! Nobody needs to talk that way (especially some know it all Aussie who thinks his pet koala is einstein or something..)
I mean really... (ok so Canadians actually live with the sh!ts on a regular basis, we're always looking for something to complain about)
Us Canadians never complain, I don't know what you are talking about..
(Look at this guy... posting that coral.. what a snot... it's like he's saying 'that's not an acro.. THAT'S an acro.. Aussies and their schtick... how the HECK do I get me a pink moose..!?!)
Could take or leave that pink thingy....

Thanks a lot Perry, that pink acro was one of two pieces that came in the same shipment. Because i wanted it to be placed in a table like fashion rather than more upright i chose this piece.

This pic was sent to me by Dave when he got back to the shop and placed the acros in the shop tank. The other piece is just left of center.

Notice how saturated Christian's frags are with color AFTER shipping. Icefire echi and seriously blue tennuis. See the disgusting green frag top center in the first pic ( nearly bought that just so i could roof the bastard - get your eyes checked Chris ) well the pink piece two across to the right of it is the other piece of two which i also took.

If you run a full on pastel zeo or AF type system and want a yellow looking acro the piece behind the blue tennuis frag is your baby. The crazy glowing piece will look aqua green regardless of water. If you run your tank any other way the yellow acro to look for is the one far left. The base branch tissue is a distinct pale salmon color. It looks matte washed out compared to every other crazy bleachy glowing piece yet came from the same reef.
It is the same A. caroliniana color variant as the Reef Raft USA " Yellow Jacket" Signature acro for $250- a frag.

Thanks mate, no crazy growth yet but i do see pieces forming tips which is good.

It's hard to shoot good porn with bloody fish in the way........ i didn't bother fixing them up too much.

You do realize the bracket rule only applies when used in one's own journal right Matt............. like ( whiny Canadian ) it only works when i use it ( cold hole dweller ) Matty, so i'm going to cut you some slack because you're a good buddy and ignore your rather classic Canadian goof...........

I don't make these rules up Matt but i do my best to follow them ( cheating is a class in Canadian schools ) so how about we all play nice hey

Stunning as always Andrew

Thanks very much Greg.

After and before shot. Just noticed you went back to a peninsula style tank.

Marty

It's still only nice from the front Marty, i hate the entire left end btw.

Loving these beautiful reds Nice man!

Thanks a lot Richard.

( I have a good square foot of cyano up the overflow end with star polyps and an aiptasia growing out of it Matt )

looking amazing as always Biggles, keep up the inspirational work :)

Thanks Sam, do you recognize the frag my enforcer wrasse is having a quiet word with........ people underestimate how much fish can contribute to a healthy SPS reef imo - especially colors......

* Obviously the fish is lying, i don't roll that way as you all know. There was that time i took a frag out the back yard for a pic and a magpie swooped down and took it from my hand. Bloody bird dropped it onto next door's roof and next thing you know Sahin started a rumor that i kill ugly acros.

I'm surprised you haven't got amazing colour out of that one, they give a nice pink and yellow in my frag tank. That being said, I haven't got any in my main tank just yet...

Lucky old me managed to pay Mr. Biggles a visit last night, managed to bring along the trusty old DSLR to pop a few (or 718) snaps too. I culled the shots back to about 130, am just processing them now....

Prepare yourselves folks, there is some serious porn coming.....
