A Splash of Color

you are more then welcome Andrew! :fun4:

love the shot and nice to see you too can chill next to your tank!

Thanks Flo :)

Very nice to see you posting Andrew. The fish story is a bit brutal, but I can relate. :)

Thanks Mark, it wasn't as brutal as what you went through with your acros the last few months. I'm so relieved to see your reef recovering and doing so well mate :)

I want to point out that the best way to build up a collection of stunning colored acros is to give them away........

My favorite acro in the display is a frag from Ken who along with John and Dom make up my four amigos acro trading circle. By giving away frags to mates who know what they are doing with acros you are insuring the piece against you goofing and wiping out everything or a lot of one off color variants. The green with red polyps and blue tips with blue axial polyps........ that's from my mate Ken too ;)

I can't show the bright pastel yellow glow behind the pastel aqua blue highlights but Dom has seen it since it began to light up for me and it makes my ice fire echis look like garbage. Christian collected it and thought it might be a dragon according to Dave - acro blind leading the acro blind if you ask me

I keep telling you Christian - you gotta stop being a woos and go down deep where the dragons hide. I told Dave to turn your air pump off when he goes out with you if you keep coming up whining about a tummy ache so lets try to be more of a team player for a change. :deadhorse1:

Goes without saying that i'll be making frags of the new pieces from Christian for Ken and John too. Three are definitely awesome color variants imo and the fourth with light blue corallite highlights i'm not so sure about. Dave put all of them through a 12 alk spike a couple of days ago so i think they will all look a lot more colorful in a month or two. :)

Nice too see you back Andrew!! And with big information...like always!!

Because of you I tried the your Juice and I'm a pretty fan too!! I have High nitrate like 25ppm but still my acros are getting lighter, I not yet made the triton test but copper seems to be pretty high too...

Gorgeous White Tailed Kole Tang. Looks like your winning the ich battle

Marty

Thanks Marty, BJ is beautiful when he's not sickly looking. I got home from work today to find one of my two female lyretails dead :( so the battle is not over. The tang is eating all day long so as long as he keeps doing that i'm hopeful he will get through this.

How much of what are you dosing daily mate, and for what actual water volume in your system. My nitrates sit around 2-5 due to the 16L of matrix i would think, do you run anything like that João ?

Any room for one more member [emoji16]

Damn straight mate, your young bloke gazing up at the lollies you placed on top of the canopy to make the scene was a great move

Me too please!

Since Flo appointed me the supreme judge of membership applications last night at the CCC annual general meeting i think i should point out a few rules to save anyone else embarrassing themselves as Matt just has

- Shoes are not permitted because no one relaxes on their tank couch with bloody shoes on.

- Two feet per tank. Pretty self explanatory if you ask me but in Matt's case their should be another pair of NON SHOE WEARING feet.

Btw, i am not singling Matt out but i thought because he's such a good mate and failed in such a spectacular fashion - the only application to do so in the history of the CCC as it so happens, that i should strike while the iron is hot. Just goes to show - all of us a just one epic blunder away from shame......... ROTM - i won't even go there.......... :twitch:

The ONLY thing that got you across the line and membership was the addition of the two weiner dogs Matt, although you really made a mess of that too didn't ya mate. One weiner dog and one weiner dog's bum.......

I'm dosing for a day Seachem trace reef 1ml , 2 lugol drops and 0,3ml of Triton Manganese solution.

What I noticed after 3 weeks was much more color and lighter!
I have in the sump 3L of siporax, I really don't know why I have so much nitrate but I suspect the skimmer pump because the left and I replaced with a Jebao 3000 and was never the same. But I'm not unhappy with that because my corals are great so...No need to drastic changes!

Here you can see how lighter it is:

I wear shoes on the couch, and pretty much 100% of the time I'm not in the bedroom. I'm weird like that. My wife thinks its nuts but I'm comfortable with them on, so you can stuff that rule.

And your'e lucky that all you got was one weiner dog bum - as soon as I lay down i have to endure a dogpile until they get the greetings out of their system, which makes photography difficult - they happened to be distracted that time for a few seconds.

All in all, I appreciate you making an exception for me, it means that I wont have to sic Buddy on you to beg:

I like shoes. I make up for that weirdness in other ways, and with leather couches and four dogs trampling over them my shoes are one of the cleaner things that are on there:lolspin:

The glass is green within a couple of hours due to the silly amount of food i am feeding the sick fish - don't care. You can see in the pic what i mean about the colors being ok considering but there is hardly any 'pop' or shine on most things, all a bit 'off' and darkish looking if you know what i mean. The phos etc would be through the roof lol.

Notice the 1" thick acrylic bases on the small islands that will be hidden by the sand down the track. Once i get the new sump - Dave is just waiting on some stuff from the acrylic guy to finish it off, i can clear the entire display bottom and finally have just the acro colors and white sand. half the stuff on the bottom is mine so i can't blame Dom lol.

I feel the need to point out that the green stylo at the front is annoying the hell out of me Dom........... it's not an acro and it's electric green garbage. I whack it with a stick regularly so it doesn't grow and steal stuff from the acros..........
Absolutely in love with your crazy stick paradise mate:inlove::inlove:
Love all that open space!

Get yourself a good skimmer mate. Colors are beautiful on your acros but very light as you say. That green and red piece is spectacular btw João

Thanks very much Mike :)

Tomorrow i will be carrying out some work on the stupid green stag and then moving it back to replace the fine branched stag behind it. It is shading way too much real estate and also preventing me dropping the gyre lower to get more forceful backflow over the left island acros. You can see the two stags together in the end shot Mike quoted.

The stupid green stag was supposed to have blue tips but hasn't for months so i gave up on it and stuck pink acro frags on it. Two weeks later the tips all started turning blue............... #$%@#! acros annoy the you know what out of me sometimes....... :mad2:

Everything is looking really great Andrew, color is spot on excellent! I need to thank you for your documentation of using trace elements and KoralColor. I spent a lot of time reading up on your thoughts and have been dosing my own version of what I think are the primary elements you use with great results as well.

Thanks a lot Joe, i need to have a read back on your journal to see what you've been up to mate. Whilst the high copper and zinc freaked me out a bit and i am no longer dosing those i still believe other elements can give you wonderful colors when used correctly. How and when certain things are added can also dramatically affect their usefulness imo.

I will be playing around with AF Energy for the fatty acids, Vitality for the vitamins and the BioS bacteria - none of which are imported yet :hammer:
I have the Build and will put 3 drops a night from now on with no other changes.

I read that you stoped the trace elements after you git the test results. I know that you did a much larger dose right before you sent your water for ICP testing, I definitely gave you an artificially high reading. I realize you want those numbers to be lower and even undetectable, but it could be if you had taken the sample 24 hours after the normal dose the results would have been very different.

But anyway, I still think zinc in lower numbers is very useful. Copper I agree on keeping it out. Feel free to IM me if you want to chat more on element dosing.

Hey Joe, i agree the readings were high due to the dosing prior to taking the sample but it told me what i wanted to know about the real working elements in trace hard. I don't think zinc is a big deal at all tbh but because it was tied with the copper in the trace hard it hasn't been added since dropping to just the koral color, lugols and water changes.

Biggles when you will dose AF products , will you dose Kroralcolor and lugol too or only AF products?

I will not be stopping the koral color and lugols Vince as i'm only going to use a few of the AF products. I think AF is going to take off big time in Aus and i think that's a good thing since it will increase the chances of success for a great many reefers new to the hobby. :)

Put a cassette tape on if you want sound...........:twitch:
