A Splash of Color

Still pretty nutso in there, Andrew.
Looking at the video, I was amazed at the amount of cool shades like blue, purple, mauve and burgundy but then you posted those stills of the hot spathulatas!
I don't see any color down from the past few months just super crazy colored Acro bush. The intensity and saturation is just ridiculous.

Wow Andrew! What amazing colors you are getting. Spaths hate my tank, and yes I am jealous. I currently have two in my frag tank and can't color them up for the life of me.

This thread makes me sick...

Sick about my own tank. :headwalls: I need colourful acros and a larger tank. Andrew you lucky bastard you got a smashing tank mate. :inlove: Well luck aint got much to do with it...more like bloody a blue thumb for corals. Construction of my own death star will commence in a few months...

Those acro pics are XXXX rated. Should be banned I reckon. :fun2:

Pure acro silliness!! :D

Just wait until we start bombing the you know what out of your new scape buddy - it's going to look like a paint ball war took place on your rocks :)

Finally caught up on all the new updates Andrew, sorry to hear about the fish. Wrasse story was pretty funny though as were the exchanges with your fish guy about the acros. Glad to see some good looking acro shots again! The new sump design looks wonderful can't wait to see it in action. One thing my tank still lacks in a nice millepora. Maybe one day... LFS owner said he got a shipment of aussie SPS in Friday, might have to go check them out today!

Hey Nick, you should check out the new stuff because i have noticed the last few months that the quality of colors on millis and spath has drastically improved - no idea why but perhaps Christian is spending more time collecting that playing tour bloody guide to acro blow ins wanting to snoop at his frags.....:hammer:

Hey, I read "Play-Biggles" for the articles, not the graphic coral porn...sure I do:D

Here's an article you might find interesting Matt ;)

And those darn spaths, freaking amazing Andrew! All your corals are ever so colorful, awesome stuff as usual :)

Thanks heaps Perry, you guys are great mates and all but the following convo took place last visit to Dave's. I have been troubled of late by the stunning colors i'm now being forced to compete with thanks to you and your bloody AF witchcraft so a subtle shift has occurred in the acro species i am now targeting............

'Give me that little spath as well Dave'

'I thought you didn't like spath's'

'I don't really but i want to stick it to my mates on RC who do'

'Hah, i like it' - Dave was grinning like a cheshire cat when he said that so he's as horrible as i am deep down when it comes to inter country acro rivalry....:wavehand:

Super colors, love the pictures.

Thanks a lot Mark :)

Thanks Matt, the colors are good considering all the changes over the last month but growth sucks lol.

Spaths are one of the corals I seem to have a hard time keeping colors. You don't seem 2.

Hey Michael, spath's are pretty much happy anywhere you'd stick a milli. Most of the spath around going back six months worldwide from what i've seen was pretty cruddy. I really do think you guys should start trying some new stuff that is now being collected. Sustainable reefs are sending lots of spath overseas now that is nothing like what we were all used to seeing for sale.
One little spath tip - always look for colorful polyps as spath seem to have much more multi color variants than millis. Look for yellow/green corallite edges leading to any color tips, the most spectacular spaths have sparkly green/yellow pigments on the corallite edges with green/yellow polyps that change to a different color towards the tips. Look at Perry's little stunner and you will see that the polips and tips morph from yellow/gold to ruby red polyps and tips.
My pink milli has a baby blue encrusting edge at the base so like Perry i am wondering if the same pigment will show itself at the tips one day....

love the spaths...wish they weren't so difficult(at least for me :p ) to keep happy
Great pics andrew!

Hey Mike, buy a couple of new bits from Aus if you can buddy and have another try. I think you've been buying duds.

Wow Andrew! What amazing colors you are getting. Spaths hate my tank, and yes I am jealous. I currently have two in my frag tank and can't color them up for the life of me.

Throw 'em out the back door Conor and re spath ! :p

Thanks Sahin, lots of us are looking forward to your new reef build. I wonder if you could not, how shall i put this...... i wonder if you could not lie so much about what acros you have in the new tank.

Just a thought mate..........;)

I finally managed to kind of capture why this frag from Ken is my absolute favorite baby doll don't look at it or i'll kill you Dom glowing pastel i mean it Dom precious princess !

This gives you a closer impression of the beautiful pale yellow glow behind the aqua blue highlight pigments and the bright glow it has under full lighting. It's in the back right corner of the display and you spot it as soon as you walk in the door :)

Ken has a colony of this........... bastard......

This intense pink/mauve blob acro has been facing the back of the display for 6 months and looks twice as colorful growing towards the viewing glass as you can see even from the top down perspective. I moved it to the front of the left island near the little peach spath a few days ago.

A couple pieces that are still coloring up and still just encrusting :rolleye1:

This looked like what we call orange when i bought it so not sure what it will end up like.

This all mauve/purple thing has the poops atm for no good reason, looks a lot nicer than this when it's happy.

A month ago i had to go through the usual deer park aquarium high pressure sales gauntlet to secure this piece. I'm so used to it now that i don't raise my voice or grit my teeth whilst 'negotiating' with Dave. I just breathe deeply and hold my ground until i eventually talk him into letting me take an acro home.

'That spathy looking branch looks interesting Dave'

'Yeah it's a bit different isn't it, pity it's such a crappy shape, how about this bit though'

'I don't want that one Dave, i want the crappy one'

'Really, but the shape is terrible'

'Can i just have it please Dave, i don't care about the shape mate'

'I suppose you could chop it up'

'I'm not going to chop it up, there's nothing wrong with it's shape'

'Ok but i have another shipment from Christian due in a couple of days'

'No Dave i'm taking that piece home'

'Ok only if you're sure, no pressure'

'If that's not in a bag by the time i get back from having a smoke there's gonna be trouble Dave'

I stood out the front of the LFS gazing at the cloudy sky and waited until the trembling rage inside me subsided, took a few deep breaths and went back in to begin the whole process over again in order to get more acros i wanted........ it sometimes takes the 30 min drive home for me to recover from playing deer park aquarium acro chess against grand master Dave..........

Lots of potential - despite being crappy shaped........:deadhorse1:

Andrew what I enjoy more than your awesome photos, are the negotiations with Dave :-)

I'm beginning to think he's doing it on purpose as some sicko way to fill in time at the shop tbh Greg. :fun4:

Andrew be careful of the trolls....just a friendly advice:):p

Oh here we go, what have done wrong now Mike.......

I dead headed this a few months and it turned a ghastly color that i call Sahin Green. Anyway about three weeks back it began to get over the sulks, sort of.

You....???absolutely nothing my dear friend;):inlove::inlove:

It's totally clear and tastes a tiny bit like poisonous butter dissolved in water. There is definitely something other than RO water in there so due to the buttery taste i'm relatively confident that it's not just another reef potion.

All good Mike :)

That acro is still very, very ugly as a whole so i think my dead heading idea was not a great success lol.

Andrew, that orange one looks very familiar to me, I have a peach piece myself, and it is a dead ringer for it, of course once is goes to peach... :) We shall see.... All your prostratas, millis, and spaths are off the chain, I know you know this, but we won't lay down that easy over here :)

Game on Perry, the orangey acros aren't very common and have a definite look that sets them apart when fresh collected. Next time i see one at Dave's i'll buy it (for you not me) so you guys can see what i mean and maybe what to keep an eye out for. They aren't as eye catching as pinks so they get missed by a lot of guys i think.

I took this the day after Dom dropped his acros off for safekeeping while the new tank cycles. I think i took it under just the T5's so i had trouble taking all the blue out. You get the idea though of what Dom did to it.......... :hammer:

a_zpsoczijj18.jpg

I placed it in shade away from direct halide light for two weeks until the green began returning and then moved it out to the far left front corner in low/med light on the sand where it has settled and began displaying stunning pigments. I predict that Dom will have this as a feature piece in his new scape...........;)

Check out the sparkling blue polyps on the axial tips as they begin to color up, would you guys give this back or hide it in the sump and tell Dom it RTN'd......... i'm torn frankly.......:reading:

Well bugger me sideways!! I always knew this beauty had a heap of potential but that is amazing beyond what I could have pictured :D
It was soul crushing seeing my acro's in the distress they were in when I dropped them off to you but it fills me with happiness seeing them returning back to glory again :D

I think I remember that piece from Dom's tank. It was one of my favs. It seems to have many color personalities.
Andrew, tell Dom you have a very nice wrasse for him and that you lost that piece when it dropped under a bus!
