A Splash of Color

Yes.. I think that's where coral shop is located..
Looks like a pretty complicated test kit..

You have to register to see prices. When I looked at the registration form it says "hacked by vandalist" at the bottom. Arrgh. What does this mean?

Sorry Andrew, I think I have hijacked your thread inadvertently. :sad2:

Don't worry, Bulent, all Andrew has to do is post a pic of another new Aussie multicolored, psycho candy flavored acro and our conversation will be forgotten in a heartbeat.. :)

Thank you very much for the tip. I have just read a detailed review on this test kit on a UK forum, which is very positive. I am on the case ...

I think the company may be in Czech republic.

Yes you are correct, and it seems to work exactly like the Salifert test kit, with more steps.

I had to create a user name and login, it would suck if the site was down:(

I have a harder time with pink and red 2. Red planet for example is just dull. Pink tips in sarmentosa not that pink. Just don't have the brightness I see in other people's pinks and reds. This is where I'm hoping color elements red purple may help.
Andrew do you do anything special for your red and pinks?

Andrew your tank is really looking amazing, keep it up buddy.

I'm super jealous of your LFS, I wish I had something like that close to me.

Thanks Josh, i asked Dave to look into opening an account with Radium Australia so i can buy my bulbs off him rather than from the US - it turns out he can buy direct and guess what 4 x 250W bulbs i've suggested (demanded) he place over the 6 x 4 SPS tank....... :smokin:

Andrew.... can you give me and idea of average price of those colonies in your LFS. If you can't I do understand.

I am just curious because I paid a SSC Aussie small colony of ~ 3" with some branches $70.

After a month the guy started to STN. I was able to cut the affected part, and now is doing great !!!

Here is the Aussie SSC (well, I was told that :) ).

Cheers
Daniel

Hey Daniel, the acros were in three groups. $35, $45 & $55- which is very cheap for the quality on offer imo.
This is what a freshly collected wild aus SSC branch looks like. There were five such branches in that Deer Park SPS tank shot. Since i have numerous SSC variants in the display i ignore any SSC i see for sale now days. A 3-4" sized piece like this goes for about $40-$50-.

I'm glad you were able to save that SSC mate, that looks awesome :) I'd class SSC as an easy to keep acro tolerant of varying light levels and flow conditions. Considering how nice it looks even when it's not in ideal conditions i think it should be one of the first acros someone new to keeping acros tries.

I hope all is well with your Mom prayers for her on a good note your tank looks great my friend.

Thank you Dan, she asked me how the 'prawny thing' was going on the phone tonight lol - a week long stay here and she's hooked :)

Top Notch corals you have there Andrew, hope all is well mate, with you and your mum, we all miss you around here ;)

Thanks Perry, i'll catch up on things soon and be on a lot more often hopefully mate :)

Andrew, how did you wash your sand?

I just put about 6" in the bottom of a salt bucket and rinse it whilst running my hand through the sand. I rinse it and empty most of the water 5-6 times and them spread it out on a 3 x 2 ft wire basket lined with plastic fly wire to dry in the sun. I have fired Manny from his sand guarding since the sleeping incident so i now cover the top of the tray with fly wire if i leave it out for a few days.

I have actually discovered a cat poop in my sand drying tray about a year ago - i am not joking about the kitty litter thing lol.

That Red/green tipped Abro looks awesome. They were at all of the LFS around here a few years ago but haven't seen one that nice in awhile. Keep us updated on that one!

Thanks mate, i'll keep you posted on any changes

Still not talking........

...but this time, I have to admit it's because I'm speechless...

You have just as many pretties in your display Matt, i've seen the pics...... :)

Acro Fight Club - round 1

Green, gold and peach colored spath frag - V - one of my creamy yellow skinned SSC frags. Both these guys are pretty savage on the stinging front so it's anyones guess who's about to have a bad day........

Matt, Australia is really the land of acros"¦"¦..we are not so lucky :sad1:

The grass is always greener on the other side mate, if i wanted to keep a pasta reef i'd be saying the same thing to Matt. ;)

Tank looks brilliant Andrew
We grabbed the piece on the left, let me know if you want a frag & I'll get some on a plug for you.

Thanks mate, Dave told me your piece was 'blueberry shortcake' and that the smaller piece i got was 'plain blueberry'. 'Are you just making these names up as you go Dave or what ?' was my reply.
Dave is going to get me a piece of the made up named acro in but thanks for the nice offer my friend :)

Awesome tank man & you seem to have a minimalistic tank with very little rock & only a shallow sand bed (which I am sure is more for visual purpose?).

I don't think you have a fuge or grow any macros? Besides your skimmer, carbon & phosban, what other nutrient transport would you attribute to the success to your reef?

I noticed a very interesting correlation in my reefs as I went in & out of he hobby over the years & I discuss it in this thread. If you are finding the same thing, I would appreciate if you can mention it in this thread.

You have such nice coloration in your SPS's & I love the minimalistic look. For me the less rocks & no sand (bb), the easier a system becomes to mange & handle long term & less work it is.

The sand is just for the contrast against the colorful corals and fish. The total rock in the display would be less than 25lbs and another 10lbs in the sump. I do a 10% water change every fortnight.
For months now i have only run the skimmer and a cup of carbon in a bag in the sump, i stopped all forms of artificial phos removal and intend adding enough matrix to handle the phos - not the nitrates. When the phos drops to where i want it i will already be dosing nitrates since they will bottom out early once the bacteria levels increase. I have tested nitrate dosing when i had zero nitrates and high phos and it does indeed make a positive difference to the acros colors - they pop a lot more.
I have another 4L of matrix ordered to make a total of 10L so far and will keep adding until i can hold just measureable phos with bacteria control. Dosing nitrates will allow me to control the level and ratio to phos with much more precision. ;)

I will check out your thread asap mate.

These acros look like some acid tripping coral fairy got out her (or his) magic fairy paint brush wand and just went to town!!! Crazy. They look like candy!!
Acro crack is what they are...
I'm jonesing big time...

There was some seriously pretty stuff in that shop tank Matt. :)

That one looks an awful lot like the one I have, it was all pale and glowing when I got it, it looks like this now:

Pink Tabling Coral:

That is a stunning acro Matt, very jealous buddy ! Mine is starting to color up but it's not going to look anything like yours, the tips are turning blue. It's only been a couple of weeks so it has a long way to go being so bleached to begin with. I have it in the center 1" off the sand.

I am sick and tired of looking at all the beautiful acros. I have acro fatigue.

Ok, I'm over it.

Thanks Mark lol. :)

Andrew do you do anything special for your red and pinks?

Hey Michael, i keep potassium at 400 but that's it really. I find the colors you're talking about are more nutrient driven. I lose pinks and reds when the water gets too dirty with nitrates and phos.

Andrew, for nitrates you could add fishes

Remember way back many months ago when i discovered the flipper glass cleaner and told all you guys about how awesome it is. Sahin rushed out and bought one after his attempt to have one 3D printed failed.........

As a result i had two magfloat sets sitting around so.............

90mm storm water drain grid with 5.5" dia grate, has a 1/8th" lip at the edge on one side - stops snails pushing your frags off the tray, little bulldozers........:hammer:
Use a dremmel or hacksaw to cut an edge off and super glue it to the inside bit of the glass cleaner.

10 minutes later and it's ready for the tank. Discs are 1.5" dia and all marked on the bottom for good glue adhesion - who was that masked acro fragger ? .............Bigglezorro........... :spin1:

I've just noticed that one of my feet is longer than the other............

Adrew (excuse me bigglezorro) I can't understand how does it work….

Wouldn't be surprised.. You know those Aussies... Probably looked at the dremmel and said, 'that's not a dremmel!' Then he reached for his diamond tipped circular saw, held that up and said 'now, THAT'S a dremmel!!'
And proceeded to chop a finger off...
:)
