A Splash of Color

Yeah.... I'm just not talking to you anymore, Andrew.
That lfs shot is just stupid.
Funny thing is how much your tank looks like a better lit and more neatly arranged version of the new Acro tank at Deer Park...
.. Do you have deer in Australia?? What kind of a name is deer park for an Aussie reef shop?!?
I don't like it...... I'm grumpy right now....

Oh man, your new acros are beautiful! And your LFS is ridiculous, just crazy. I'm liking that FTS as well bud.

More importantly, sorry to hear your mom hasn't been well. That's gotta be tough. I hope her condition improves.

Looking at your most recent FTS, you've DEFINITELY fulfilled your thread title, A Splash of Color. AWESOME reef!!!

Best wishes to your mom and a speedy recovery.

I need that deepwater and rosaria! I have the perfect spots for them. I think you should send them to me. Any idea of species for the deepwater?

Sorry Matt, but Andrew won this round with a knockout. Aus 1: Can 0 :lolspin:

Those are some stunning acros Andrew. You are so bloody lucky to have that LFS. My LFS is propagating weedy SPS like montis, and some acros that come free with at least a handful of AEFW!!! :mad2:

Anyway, my post on Matt's thread got the dual effect I was after; some stunning acro photos on this thread and deserved praise on Matts thread. Thanks for the eye candy mate. Matt's got DEER fixated in his head...I think Deer and stunning acros has adversely affected him. :lolspin:

Now lets see what Matt comes up with in round two...:D Once he shakes deer+acros out of his head.

biggles i see u dose alk. the same high tech. way i do... haha but how are u dosing cal. and mag.?

Hi mate, i put 170ml of calcium in the ATO each morning which i refill each evening so the whole lot is going into the system over about 8-10 hours. I pour 350ml of Mg into the sump once a week atm.

Alk - 7.0
Cal - 410
Mg - 1300
K -400
Salinity - 1.0260

Great aquascape.

What T5 bulbs do you like with the 400 radiums? Are you overdriving the radiums?

Thanks mate, i run actinics with blue plus or KZ superblues. I run the radiums at 400W which is over driving them. They're supposed to be run at 370W from memory.

And you said things weren't looking great, you bloody fibber!! damn you got some sweet pieces in the last little while, you weren't lying about that at least! That delicate deepwater is amazing!

I definitely have to say we have the best acro dealer in Aus :D I still haven't had the chance to see the new tank yet

EDIT: I still can't get that deep saturated purple and blue from my tricolour :( It's just brown at the moment! Is it nutrient or light sensitive? Because I'm pretty sure there's some nutrients floating around in my waters lol

Hey Dom, i dropped the cutters on the deep water today accidentally so you now have a little frag of that lol. The tricolor doesn't like high light so medium or a bit less is best. It's very sensitive to nitrates but not bothered by phos being over 0.05. It's water quality driven in regards to getting the blue to cover all the purple tissue underneath.
You really need to go check out the big tub of acro dreams buddy :)

Andrew I hope your mom is better.

That picture of the LFS tank is not fair. Any of my "reef LFS" around Boston that I have visited DO NOT have colonies like that ones. We always have to start from 1-2 " frags or a "minicolony" (2-3 small branches ). And , if they have one of those colonies (rare to see) it cost a fortune. Moreover, when we get those corals in Boston they already traveled half of the world. Instead you almost have them growing in your house porch. That is NOT FAIR...... I am Jelous and want to relocate to Australia. ... LOL ... :)

Cheers
Daniel

Hey Daniel, it's not a bad place to hang out if you're into SPS mate. Dave loves talking acros and colors so he and i get along like a house on fire.

Splash of colors indeed:inlove:

That frog pic is sooooo cool!!That will become the coolest frag ever in the future

Hey Mike, i double the soli will give him up without a fight once he's covered lol.

I agree with you.................it isn't fair

From where Dom and i are sitting it looks pretty bloody fair....

Hope your mom starts feeling better Andrew. Family illnesses are tough.

Outstanding pictures and corals you picked up. Man I wish I had a LFS as good as that one. We have one that picks up a few pieces, meaning like 4-5 and that is all that we see for a month or so. People like to drool over the access to frags that we have, but they are always small and cost a pretty penny.

Thanks Joe, i was very lucky getting access to so many different acros freshly collected in a couple of shipments. The acros i recently scored were on the reef about 36 hrs before being placed in my display and most were still colored just as when they were in the ocean with some slight paling from stress. You don't often get to see pieces looking very much like they were growing in the wild.

I missed the piece on the left but the one on the right is the acro i posted a pic of earlier. In the wild it is white/cream skinned, purple lipped with blue polyps. I have had a couple of similar pieces over the years and it's a 'challenging' acro to hold color but doable.

I love the picture of the dog.

Those colonies at the LFS are fresh cut from wild bigger colonies or are Marin cultured from frags ?

Daniel

Hey Matt lol. The shop is in a suburb of Melbourne named Deer Park so it's obvious Dave didn't put a lot of effort into naming his shop. I would have called it Goldfish Suck or something equally catchy.

Oh man, your new acros are beautiful! And your LFS is ridiculous, just crazy. I'm liking that FTS as well bud.

Thanks buddy, i'm glad you like all the new pieces. You can trust me when i say i have nothing else new.........pretty sure i've shown you all the new acros.........

Thanks very much mate :)

Pretty sure the delicate one is A.caroliniana Mike. There aren't many acros sharing similar growth pattern with tapering tips other than lokani which it isn't.

Hey Sahin, if things get out of hand i'm going to call in a surgical strike from Dom with the Firetruck to take out Matt's best red acro......... :smokin:

Beautiful corals and tank! I wish I had a lfs near me that was that nice!

Thanks mate, it's a pretty cool place to hang out if you're into saltwater. The fish and flubber are equally as impressive. :)

I love the picture of the dog.

He's a cool dude Daniel. :) They are all wild pieces mate.

Front left acro in the tank pic above is a very bleached acro that i ignored because it looked like a green with purple or blue tips that shipped poorly. Considering the color i thought it was going to be and how touchy it obviously was compared to the others i dismissed it.

'Didn't want the Tierra del Fuego piece, remember the one i told you about a while back that the collector says ships badly but is colored like a rainbow when collected' says Dave............

Oh my are those some gorgeous pieces. You win for today!

Oh did you!? :inlove: lol If it is a. caroliniana I think I might die of excitement, it's been a long time want of mine, not that I've told Dave lol
It's under medium light, just under halfway up the tank so I might have to test nitrates but I would be surprised if they're high, I know there's a little bit of phos in the tank but not enough to be worried about lol I'll have to have a test and play and see what I can do!
I really really have to see the new tank!! I'm going to have to wait till Wednesday though :( After my last exam haha

Hey Daniel, it's not a bad place to hang out if you're into SPS mate. Dave loves talking acros and colors so he and i get along like a house on fire.
It's not a bad place to hang if you like talking haha I don't think I've ever been in the store any less than an hour just chatting to Dave. Well you get along until you start yelling at him in front of customers :lolspin:

From where Dom and i are sitting it looks pretty bloody fair....
Very bloody fair! Hawkins, Red Dragon, A. Lokani, cheap reef goods, just to name a few of the things we don't get :hammer: So I think having an award winning LFS seems like a pretty good trade

Dave's SPS light rig.

He really did not hold back! I remember when he was telling me about the plans and he said I think it might be overkill, I simply just said do it and if you don't like it you can reduce it (knowing full well he'd love it haha)
In the last 6 months Dave has overtaken, I reckon, every store in Aus with the quality of his acro's and the way he's caring for them as well! :) Easily the best store in Aus now lol

Jumpin' Andrew, MEGA photo bomb :bounce3: Those pics are off the hook buddy, almost makes me want to move to Oz :celeb1:

Thanks Joe but someone else got the piece on the left before i got to the shop lol.

Andrew, do you wash your sand? how often?

I had cyano on the sand so i siphoned out a heap and after washing the sand i return it to the display. I've done it twice now in the last 8 months. It's about 10% of the total sand in the display so bugger all.

Thanks mate, things are good in the land of acros :)

Looking fantastic as always Andrew.

Thanks Greg :)

That tank is ridiculous!

Yes it is Matt lol. This small piece of branch was in there and caught my eye so i stuck it on top of the tricolor which is quite poopy about the whole thing. The SSC is more cream than green.

3_zpsbqv2wagw.jpg~original

Both these acros have been in the display for over two months and yet none of you seemed at all interested in them when i didn't mention getting them back a few months ago. Both have been attached to the back of the left island the whole time which is called acro scaping - not sneakiness.

Andrew, fantastic the red green acro in the last pic..............it's easy for you ...in the land of acros :headwally::headwally:

Andrew your tank is really looking amazing, keep it up buddy.

I'm super jealous of your LFS, I wish I had something like that close to me.

Andrew.... can you give me and idea of average price of those colonies in your LFS. If you can't I do understand.

I am just curious because I paid a SSC Aussie small colony of ~ 3" with some branches $70.

After a month the guy started to STN. I was able to cut the affected part, and now is doing great !!!

Here is the Aussie SSC (well, I was told that :) ).

Cheers
Daniel
