Testing 40 gallon sump baffles:

Test #1= first baffle , where water comes unto the sump from 14 feet above, water goes over this baffle abd will go into the filter socks.

<a href="http://s1028.photobucket.com/user/acer327/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-08/IMG_20160815_094733937_HDR_zpst3huu7fb.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y342/acer327/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-08/IMG_20160815_094733937_HDR_zpst3huu7fb.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20160815_094733937_HDR_zpst3huu7fb.jpg"/></a>

Yep , "fail"!

Yep, darn, darn ,darn....

Well, not that important if that baffle has a pinhole leak. The last baffle is much more important as it will prevent water in the 40 sump from flowing into the 75 refugium and overflowing it, if/when tge system is shut down = power outages, maintaining pump, etc.

Success= yeah!!

yep, we kinda thought that might be an issue. the last one is the important one like you said. It's good to see that it's ok!!!

Kevin

Yes, tested fixed skimmer. Looks good, but nit enough bubbles, anybody know how to get more bubbles without wasting salt?

<a href="http://s1028.photobucket.com/user/acer327/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-08/IMG_20160815_103744750_HDR_zpsmwfosy6t.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y342/acer327/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-08/IMG_20160815_103744750_HDR_zpsmwfosy6t.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20160815_103744750_HDR_zpsmwfosy6t.jpg"/></a>

Ah haaa.. added some vinegar, and wow bubbles instantly. But, i can now see bubbles shooting out of the one "fixed" crack. Tough to see in pic, but i can see 3 areas that bubbles are shooting out from.

We are getting there- lots of work to do. I left the sump outside today for a long term test on the second baffle- yep its raining again !! So, I guess that test is a bust.

Ok, in spite of the rain. My test fir the second baffle overnight was a success. However when removing the skimmer I found more leaks between the bottom plate and the body. So, Weldon here we come. at least the diffuser held in place.

OK rewelded with Weldon and the skimmer passed test today = YES!!! I cleaned the area as best as possible but did not want to re-break the whole skimmer so it is mostly a "over the old" sealant job. But it worked. Tomorrow - Set up and truly cement the PVC joints. Also begin to cure Extra rock- should have been done weeks ago. I knew I was forgetting something ......

Trying to glue all PVC joints today. But, when putting them together I cannot "seat" the PVC into the joint very far - only about 1/2 of what it is supposed to be. Is it the humidity making the PCV "sticky" or what?

don't know.... normally I prime, apply glue heavily, and insert with a twisting motion to bottom out. I've never really ran into them not seating fully. did you debur your cut edges?

I asked my dad who was a plumber for 30+ years. He said to use a lot of glue and use the glue as lube. Also, once it is fully seated, you have to hold it into the fitting for a max of 20 seconds, or the fitting will will attempt to push put of the fitting.
