OK- also if anybody has a local glass shop that is more reasonable price wise than what I just got for a bid = $178 for 1/4 inch thick plate glass with edges ground ( not polished) = 7 pieces of 12 x 17 3/8 and 3 pieces at 16 x 17 3/8. OUCH !!

Ok, well got a call and tank/canopy/ stand are inspected, and awaiting my last payment before thestart thier journey home. Estimated arrival is early August. So i guess i need to get off my duff and figure out stuff. Order the flexpvc, etc. And get my acrylic guy a payment so he can start the overflow asap.

I get all my glass cut at Fox glass in mt. Pleasant pa. It's a bit of a haul for you though, of course I could pick them up for you and meet you if need be

Current sump/fuge setup in garage - the basement ceiling is only 82 inches. So, need to decrease the height of the tank on left so I can get the new vertex skimmer in there comfortably and maintain it easily. I guess I will start will cutting off the toe kicks of the cabinets = 3.5 inches. THat may be all I need. fingers crossed.

If that measures out - then will start cutting glass out of 55 gallon tank that Jamie brought to the picnic. Should be interesting as I have never cut glass before.

I think I would just lower the higher tank's stand until the pipes just clear the lower tanks. That looks like it would get you 4 inches lower to start with.

I should be around Sat late afternoon and Sunday mid afternoon if you want help breaking the.........oops......... I mean cutting the glass.

Sat morning I'm going rattlesnake hunting!!! So any time after that is contingent on me not being dead. :D

OK - cut the legs down to lower the left tank ( sump) so the bulkheads on the side are just above the refugium tank ( on right in the pic) . This gives me enough clearance so I can make 12 inch baffles in the sump area, and lift the skimmer up to 6 inches off the floor of the tank ( in case it needs to be put in only 6 inches of water) and still have 3 inches of space between the top of the skimmer and the basement ceiling.

Well, just wasted many hours of time taking apart a 55 tank donated by Jamie to make my sump Baffles out of. However , aftet getting the tank apart, cleaning up the glass with a razor and rubbing alcohol i brought it to the glass shop. Guess what the front and back panels are tempered.... i checked the side panels which were not. So, back to ordering glass.... bummer.

Thanks Fetta - I already bit the bullet and ordered from ABC glass 4 blocks away from me = 4 baffles that are 12 x 17.25 and 3 at 16 x 17.25 that are 1/4 inch thick with polished edges for $130.

Well one step forward and one step back. Tank is supposed to be here, but have not heard from shipping company. Also, like an idiot I dropped my vertex 180 and broke the body. Possibly glueable.......ahhhh s***. So mad at myself.

Just teated it and cleaned it . Then picked it up by the collection cup, and after a few seconds the body droppped, bounced once and crack.......I need a drink...

I have a couple asm g3 bodies laying around if you need a skimmer to use. You could plumb the pump off the vertex to it

OK - had a few Drinks last night - looked at the skimmer body again and I am going to try and fix it - the bottom piece of the body and the diffuser plate are intact but not attached to anything anymore, there is a long crack in the body that spirals up from the bottom of the body to about 1/2 way up , but other than that the body is in one piece. SO, if anybody is good at gluing acrylic back together - let me know. I think I have some "Weld on" - but it will be years old- I wonder if that stuff has an expiration date or not.

Hybrid- Thanks for the offer , But I am currently running a modified G3 on my 65 tank - so if necessary I can just start the new tank with that.

I picked up the Vertex skimmer recently from Kevin ( Drone) as he did not think it was large enough to properly skim his new system ( 280??) . But I think it will be perfect for my new setup ( 150 gallon) .

It is amazing how there are so many up and downs of these projects!!
