Achilles tang can't fully shake off the ick

bullitr

broke but happy
I have it for 6 months, super healthy, very fat and the dominant fish in the tank.
There is only one small yellow tang in the tank but with 50 more smaller fish in the tank consist of shallow tail angel, dwarf angel and wrasses.

The thing is that its very clear during the day because my pair of cleaner wrasse picks all the ick off but at night it's full of it.

I qt all my fish ( when I rebuild I go fallow and copper QT for 2 months ick and still the ick is there so I don't want to hear taking everything out and go fallow for 3-6 months again.
All of The fish are healthy and fat no way I will
Stress them out.

My question is there a way to help my Achilles develop an immunity with ick like my old powder blue that I had for a while that gets rid of it after few months.

Thanks

Man that blows. Can you post pics of the Achilles and your tank? Love to see it. I hate ich. Wish there was a reefsafe cure.

my powder blue gets it just when he gets stressed and if you feed him nori it goes away I cant seem to get rid of it fully but he is super healthy otherwise and loves eating nori

Cant help you, but one of my achillles has specs of something on its fins. It is 100% not ich though. When taking pics under metal halides, it looks like lymph. Been 4 months and it wont go away.

These fish are just super sensitive.

Not ot get into a big debate, but UV sterilizer helped with my blank tang, might be an option if you aren't implementing one yet.

Don't have a good advice. As you know already know, I have the same issue or even worse. Hope can find a good advice and resolve this issue.

I miss my Achilles. It only survived 2 days in my 240 gallon. All my other fish were fine.:(

The sticky will always say copper Qt Then go fallow for months
I don't want to jeopardize all of my fish by doing that because as mention above the fishes are very healthy and fat even the achilles.

I'm not sure it will help to rid a fish of ich but my PB tang had ich,now it don't,and it does help build up the immune system...what I do is add omega 3 fish oil to flakes or pellets and let the food soak in the oil then feed it to my fish, not only does it help their immune system, their colors seem more vibrant too

the omega 3 fish oil I use is the kind you can get a wally world for humans in the big football shaped capsules,I take 'em too, just pierce the tip with a knife and squeeze out the oil into the fish food.....the fish love it,I,however,do not LOL

you have a beautiful aquarium, hope you can heal the achilles,he's a beauty too

I feed my powder blue lots of live red algae and that keeps the ich away and also I was told it boosts their immunity when I order more u want me to order extra for you? Pm me if u do

Gorgeous tank!

Sorry, but the cleaners aren't eating ich parasites. The actual parasite is buried well out of reach and the white spot is scar tissue. (What the white spot actually is varies by source, but it isn't the parasite. Studies of cleaner shrimp & fish stomachs have proven this.)
UV is of little use also; free-swimming parasites emerge from their Mother at night. Most ich & fish spend the night on the substrate. If UV were much help much, all the newly released parasites would have to find the UV intake before they found a fish. Obviously impossible.

Ich immunity is temporary and only protects against some strains. Because of the way you describe the ich coming and going, and because its only affecting one fish; is it possibly something else? My Achilles gets all sorts of "spots"( bigger than ich and not raised) at times, usually noticeable when the lights come on. The Achilles I lost to Katrina had the same thing and I just assume its normal. Tangs are very ich-prone; but any fish can get it. If no other fish have had ich symptoms for 6 months; I really think your tank may not have it. Ich just doesn't appear and disappear so rapidly and for so long. I hope that's the case. A pic would really help.

Good luck I hope you can get it cleared up. I had some in the past that had ich, but they eventually got over it. I always seemed to have an outbreak on one of the fish everytime I moved some rock or corals around, I guess he didnt like me rearranging the furniture!

Same thing happened with my boyfriends. It would only have ich at night. He was nice and healthy looking too but didnt survive :( Good luck to you, I hope you everything works out!

The Achilles remain a fat pig even after I added a large mean purple tang ( more than 6 years in captivity ) the powder blue is back on acclimation box for social acclimation

Also I will pick up a 10 " white tail orange shoulder Sunday from my lfs after he qt it for me plan to keep in the sump for couple of days. Then The purple tang will be in time out for few days or so while i released the orange shoulder and powder blue next week. Hopefully it work out since I have 80 + fishes in the tank
