I like this fish alot but would he be ok with a Hawaii Naso Tang? In a 150?
No. You might want to get a bigger tank for the naso. before you consider adding more fish.

Hey guys! Im getting a beautiful and healthy achilles tang tomorrow. ive been reading a bunch of comments on this and i have a question.

The fish look extremely healthy i only have a 29g QT set up. Should i add him directly in the display tank(300G reef) or continue with the QT in the 29g? what would be best chances for the fish as he is absolutely beautiful!

I think the best chances would be to add him to display. Thats what I am giong to do when I get mine.

Picked up my Achilles tang yesterday! He is absolutely beautiful and in great condition. Already eating 10 mins after he was introduced to the DT. I decided NOT to QT him as i only have a 29g QT tank and he is about 7-8 inches so i think that would have stressed him out more. I almost feel like hes too big for my tank. Its 8feet by 3feet but still hes such a nice Achilles i would want him to go to the best. Here are a few pics.Him and my Naso tang already seem to be friends.

I have had my achilles tang from DD in my DT for 2 weeks. Right away, he was eating nori and marine cuisine from SF Bay. After about 10 days, I noticed that he is starting to get ich. He's the only one in my tank that looks to be infected. Since then, he's still eating nori but not as aggressively. He stopped eating the marine cuisine altogether. I've tried feeding him clams, mysis, pellets, and he's not touching any of those things. Should I be concerned or just leave him be to battle it on his own? I thought about moving him to my 30g hospital tank and treat him with copper, but I don't think he'll be happy there. I am doing more frequent water changes. Other than that, I am not sure what I can do. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

If it were me and he stopped eating all togther or wasnt looking like hes fighting it off on his own id definitely put him in the QT and get him eating again then think about putting him back in DT. Im sure all the water changes is a lot of comotion for him and possibly stressed him out. My naso started getting ich a little while ago and then stopped eating so i put him in the QT for a week or so and now hes fine..so id recommend that GOOD LUCK! Achilles are amazing fish.

WOW, that is an awesome looking achilles. Nice and fat too. I think that 300g tank is plenty big.

I would NOT put him in the QT, thats where achilles go to die.

Dose garlic and look into UV

I agree with this, I think it will die in the QT. I have learned my lesson and if I were you I would do the best I could to get him eating in the display tank. Have you tried Formula 2 soaked with garlin and vitamins?

Thanks everyone for the inputs. I will keep him in the DT and hope for the best. He's still eating nori so it's not so bad. I tried soaking Ocean nutrition Formula 2 pellets in Garlic and he's still not touching it. When I offered him mysis shrimp, he just watch them float by. He's still actively swimming and the white spots seems to be getting a little better.

Awesome!

Awesome!

You did the right thing by putting him in your DT. Your tank is plenty big enough. What I recommend is to leave the tank alone. Keep your hands out. Don't move any rocks or corals. Don't do any drastic water changes. Just feed the fish what he will eat until he gets used to you be around the tank. Add some vitamins to the food. This will help him from getting ich and help him to keep him fatten up. Be patient. No big changes. Number one is to find out what he likes to eat, add vitamins to it, and keep feeding.

He just got some white spots on him today..still eating like a horse so im just gonna over feed him until he either starts getting better or stops eating all together then im gonna QT him. But i hope he can pull himself through. He seems really strong. so fingers crossed!

are you putting garlic in the nori?

try dosing Vit C

I already dealt with this recently and kicked its *** in one week.

Yes, I have garlic on the nori and the pellets. He's still eating nori today, but there are more white stuff all over him. Not sure if he's getting better or worst. His fins don't look at rigid and healthy as when I first got him. When I get a chance, I'll post a picture.

Woke up this morning and found my 5" achilles tang dead. He wasn't able to get rid of ich on his own. Wish there was more I could have done to save him. It will be a long time before I would even think about attempting to get an achilles again.
