Achilles Tang Primer

For those of you who have or had Achilles, did you ever add any fish after the Achilles? If so, what type of fish and did everything work out ok?

I want one of these but IM going to wait till after the first of the Yr prob in March. My Tank will have been set up for 5 to 6 months by then. Just a few questions I need answers to.
1. Do you or should you pre treat you DT with any medications? Prior to adding this fish?
2. If the fish gets ich while in DT use the above methods the get rid of the ich?
3. What do you all suggest the best place to purchase one LFS, Online, etc, etc?

Thanks with your help I look to be a Achilles Tang keeper.

I haven't added anything after the Achilles. But knowing this fish I am certain he will be aggressive to a fish that will be large enough for him to attack.

#1 no leave the DT alone, just keep the best water chemistry

#2 keep good flow, feed him heavey, and keep your hands out of the tank til he gets to know you.

#3 I would buy one from your lfs before buying one on line. That way you can see if it's healthy with no ich and don't buy it if it doesn't eat. Other wise I would buy on line only from Divers Den, but good luck being on the computer at the right time when they have one available. Their gone fast.

Just want to update on my two achillies. Both are still alive and getting along great. But the one is getting skinny. He eats but not that aggressively as his brother nor the other fish in the tank. I'm trying to feed feed feed. This is how I lost the big guy I had for a year. Ate but just kept getting skinnier and skinnier til he past away.

Check out my pic on top of this page. I have Nori on a cleaning magnet all folded up with rubber band all over it so almost nothing gets wasted. This is all that my tangs eat including the Blueface angel. I put a few drops of Zoe on it before folding" Sometimes I use Selcon as well. You can see how fat and happy they are.

They definitely have to eat at least two times a day though. Early in the morning works with the Nori trick then another at night.

I am tempted again i see a noce one but i am worried about my 9 inch sohal i have now.
He is peacefull and has not bothered a fish to date, But he is the king. The new achilles would be up right there with the sohal. Hmm.

I was at my LFS yesterday where I picked up a Niger Trigger and I was asking about one of these and he told me these are Ich magnets. Kinda makes me scared about a 100 dollar fish that will go in yout DT and Ich up everything. But I guess that the price you pay for a beautiful fish.

Well picked it up today i seen it eating nori and flake food aggressivly and is eating a couple hrs of acclimation. The sohal, orange shoulder and purple tang didnt even mess with him. None of the fish did. He is happily swimming around the tank in the gyre flow.
He is 8+ inches and arounf the same length as the sohal and orange shoulder, But the body size of him is larger and dwarfs the others. He is nice and plump and has a nice blue streek running down his head to his mouth i didnt know achilles had. Must only get that with maturity?
I have a good feeling about this one. :)

I'll get one today. He was a little shy from me yesterday, and i want to let him calm down.

My LFS has one that is about 7 to 8 inches. I am tempted, but I already lost one achilles about 6 months ago to ick. The fish looks clean but I am certain that this LFS runs some copper in there system.

i find that this is the best size. They are strong when larger.
