i find that this is the best size. They are strong when larger.
I have to agree, Somewhat like naso tangs are stronger when larger. I tried a few small ones and they never did well at all. The larger ones seem to adapt better. JMO

divers den has a big 8 inch achilles for sale. Could I put that in a 375 gallon tank or is the tank to small?
375 would be great for it. Buy it before somebody with a small tank does.
My thoughts too. I have an 8 incher in my 300 and mine is happy swimming around the tank.
Update, Mine is just eating nori soaked in selcon and garlic at the moment. has alot of energy and not timid. Comes right up to me. Its still early but no ich on him. I would like him to start eating mysis next and then pellets. I suspect he is picking but i cannot say for sure.
Throughout this thread there has been a debate about quarantining. I'm wondering if in my situation you guys would quarantine an achilles or not.
My lfs is ordering an achilles in for me and going to hold it at the store for a week to make sure it is healthy. My quarantine tank is a 55 gallon tank with a CPR Bak Pak skimmer, koralia 4, and an aquaclear powerhead which I used to use for coral propagation but not anymore. The tank has a 4 inch sand bed, 50 lbs of liverock and a ball of cheato. It isn't the standard quarantine tank which is completely sterile. It has a little algae growing that the tang could nibble on. If you were me, would you put an achilles into this tank before putting him in the display? I quarantined my powder blue in this tank and he was fine and fattened up before I moved him to the display.
I really want to quarantine the achilles because I want him fat and really healthy before having to duke it out with my other tangs in the dt.
