Achilles Tang Primer

I just got one last night. he is in the qt, swims a lot and eats nothing... no spots and is beautiful.. im hoping he will eat soon! ill get some pix up when i can

Just picked a 3.5" achilles today. its eating aggressively oceanic nutrition beef flakes and NLS pellets. got it in a 40g breeder QT with a 3.5" swallowtail angel.

for the past few days, my AT is infected with white spot, on and off, 70% of the time

its fat, feeding(mysis and red bamboo algae) and swimming normally
but at times, it will dash from left to right

anyway to resolve this problem?

tankmate
2 flasher wrasse, 2 clownfish
3 snail, 4 cleaner shrimp

thanks a million

Yours eating better yet?

Well, the very next day he had ich all over his body!!!!! (bad) i should have taken a pic, i slowly started hyposalinity and the next day it was almost gone.. On the forth day I made long thin pieces of seaweed under a rock.. And sure enough he eats them.. So I try to do that twice a day.. He is eating no pellets at all... or mysis that is soaked either... Im sure he willeat np once he is in the DT and sees the other tangs eating..

im almost at 1.009 salinity.. and he in a 20 long.. I hate ich.. I really dont want to wait a million weeks.. Maybe i'll wait 3 and bring him back up to normal level, but i'll prob wait:sad2:

(as long as he makes it, im happy, he has amazing colors, will take pix asap

So you QT tangs but not triggers? I hope you did not get something in your main display when you added the crosshatch with no QT.

Have anyone ever freshwater dip their achilles due to ick. If so how was it or does that just stress them out more.

well, it was only cause they were the first in the tank.. I guess I should qt the new guy coming in for 2 weeks just to make sure....

mine was eating like a hog on the 1st day(Saturday), but has been kinda slow to eat now. I did see a the majority of the Ocean Nutrition marine green algae i had on a clip gone when i came home from work. put another piece up all day today and it has hardly touched it. i'll see when i get home from work.

any other types of algae that seems to work well?

so the ich was "gone" and now re attached yesterday and still is on him today.. Im at.09.. I hope its gone tomorrow and I hope he makes it.. I will leave him in the qt till the end of feb for sure

padova, how many days now has he been at 1.009?

gary, thats one nice looking achilles. how long have you had yours? any bouts with ich? if so, what was your treating method..

Padova, stick with the hypo. It may take a couple of months or even longer. You should see the symptoms lessen and at some point you'll notice they don't come back. To be sure that you've eradicated the parasite give the fish 4-6 weeks in hypo *from the last observed signs of infection. Whatever you do don't introduce any other fish or anything else to your QT unless you're ok with basically starting the process over again.

My fish has been in QT a little over 3 weeks now, everything is good so far. He decided that he only wants to eat 3 things:

- Live black worms
- Spirulina brine shrimp
- Nori

No pellets or flake yet.

Hey guys.. He has only been @ true .09 for 5-6 days.... I hope to see the ich fall off again today.. It was pretty bad.. He is still only eating nori...

I def will not be placing him in the dt until at least end of feb to be certain... Im picking up 2 purples today from an established tank which I will place in a 40 qt.. Hopefully they will be pest free and I can add them in two weeks to the dt.

mine is eating a lot of nori and some NLS pellets. i have it in a 40g breeder with a 3.5" swallowtail angel.

today makes 7 days and no white spots. i'll go hypo sometime next week.

this is the list of everything i've tried...
1 NLS pellets
2 ocean nutrition prime reef flakes
3 ocean nutrition shrimp flakes
4 pe mysis shrimp
5 ocean nutrition prime reef frozens
6 ocean nutrition marine seaweed green algae
7 two little fish red algae
