Achilles Tang Primer

I believe my AT is displaying some signs of flukes. I am going to treat him with prazi pro for 2 weeks, but I have also heard freshwater dips can help as well, do you guys suggest this with the achilles tang?

What are his symptoms? Prazi is fine, generally a gentle med but can be an appetite suppressant. You'll want to do two separate 5-7 day treatments a couple days apart if he does have flukes, with a water change in between.

Well I have came to this assumption because of his body movements. I have monitored this fish now for around 30 hours viewing him. I have noticed a few times of him maybe trying "scratch himself" and have kind of disregarded it as I didn't notice any symptoms of ich or a change in his eating. When swimming from one side of the tank to the other he would swoop down low almost against the glass and that is why I disregarded it. So today while observing him I noticed him definitely try to "scratch" himself on the piece of LR that I have in the QT. I also observed a couple of head shakes that I have noticed since day one just didn't add it all up. When I was reading on flukes it said that there can be a sudden change of appetite. I have noticed this at times with him sometimes he goes nuts for food and other times he is just "meh" about it. I was going to treat prazi regardless of any symptoms or not, I will be starting prazi tomorrow morning as that should give me most the day to observe him in case of any sudden changes or reactions he may have with the treatment. Has anyone tried FW dipping them? I would like to FW dip him for 8 minutes to try to rid of whatever flukes may be on him at this time.

So I prepared a FW dip and checked to match PH and temp. I ran into a problem the PH in my QT is 7.71, checked with PH probe.

What shall I do?

FW dipped him for 5 min, his reaction seemed to be normal he played dead numerous times and then swam around. He is back into the QT which will start prazi tomorrow. I wish I could raise my PH now...

Also after dipping him The blohes on his skin finally seemed to show and be more predominant which is another sign of flukes if im correct.

My achilles tang has a white spec on the end of his fin. Definitely appeared today, I am 100% sure it is not ich as it is probably the size of a fluke. Can flukes appear white if on the tip of there fin? Can it just be he knicked it on something? I FW dipped him last night and today started PraziPro, still eating like a champ no changes there.

Mine had a few spots when I first got him, I just keep him as fat as I possibly can and haven't seen anymore spots in over 2 years (knock on wood)

Right now mine is spot free, along with all the other fish. AT eats nori and spirulina brine with gusto, but turns its nose up at everything else. Only AT I've had that wouldn't eat mysis.

Still won't eat mysis, but I noticed today that it's eating Larry's Herbivote Frenzy, and not just the seaweed bits either.

My Achilles is definitely getting fatter but then again my purple is 1.5 his thickness guess he's the bigger bad boy in that tanks.

Quick AT update - no signs of any ich spots now in almost two months, and I noticed today that it has added NLS 1 mm pellets to the list of acceptable foods. Only took 8 months!

RIP, my beautiful Axel. I bought him in June 2010 and he was my most gorgeous tang and a big suck. He would still be here today but I am upgrading and he was being kept in a large tub which crashed, feel terrible.

Sorry to hear Tracey :(

its funny how attached we get to our fish ! but I am sure you gave it a great life in captivity over the years. some stuff in this hobby are just too hard to avoid ... dont blame yourself.

Hey guys, thought I'd check in. I got my AT from DD in December, so it's been 8 months now. He's doing great, and growing fast, so I'm pretty happy with the results. He eats mysis, brine, and lots of nori. No pellets yet, but I'm working on that. Here's a quick pick:

Got anyone looking to get an AT, I'd highly recommend divers den. It's definitely worth the price to get a healthy, ich free fish. All my fish are QTed so my tank is ich free. It saves me a lot of worry.

Looks great adeebm!!! It took mine about a year till he would eat the NLS pellets, great he's eating everything else!

Thanks, I'll keep trying!

Btw, I got him as a juvi (2.5-3") with an undeveloped teardrop. It only took 3 months for the teardrop to appear.

I've had a bunch over the years and all ended up eventually eating pellets. My current one, acquired last November has gradually expanded its diet. Started eating pellets (NLS algae max) about a month ago. Some of the others I've had started quicker; some slower. They are individuals after all :)
