Achilles with Ich

Ich usually has cycles of about 2 weeks, you should see an improvement soon. Know also that when they survive an attack each one gets alittle easier to deal with.(I'm speaking of individual fish, you'll still see outbreaks through out the tank.) There is also a study that suggests that if you add nothing else to the tank, the ich strain dies out and you'll see no outbreaks within 10 months to a year.

Little update...Lost my lemonpeel mimic. He ate from day 1, however, he never fattened up. I am very disappointed. He was a beautiful fish and besides the achilles, my favorite. The achilles looks terrible and although he is still eating, I don't believe he will make it. His eyes are covered. The fowleri is covered, but acting normal and eating like a pig. Looks like I will lose the battle. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for your support and help.

It's unfortunate but fish like the achilles (powder blues, powder browns, etc) are just one of those fish that like to die. Every once in a while there's a bulletproof specimen, but overall they're relatively hard to keep :(

Sorry to hear about the lost. I agree with Chelsey those tangs just like to bother you and then die. Its really ashame.

Thanks for posting this. Could you tell me the size of the uv you were using?

Charlie,

I have some questions for you. How long did your achilles last with ich? What size is your tank? Did any fish pick on each other? What are your water parameters? How long has your tank been set up? Did you make any changes to the tank after you added the achilles?

My achilles lasted a little over two weeks with ich. Tank has been up and running for 7 months. I combined a 55 that was up for 4 years and 125 that was up for 8 years (I only owned it for 1 of those years). I have a purple tang that is the boss but he never picked on the achilles. After adding the achilles, the only thinkg I did differently was over feed with food soaked in Selcon, vita-chem and garlic. My nitrates did creap up from zero when I was overfeeding to about 5, but they are now at zero again. Phosphates are at zero, but that is based on a Salifert test. I believe I have some phosphates as I am now fighting a cyano outbreak. Ammonia and nitrites are zero. I tend to think my tank might not have been established enough for the achilles or I might have been overstocked. I will try again sometime, but not in the near future.
