Achilles with Ich

Thanks for the response. I have a similar situation. In my 180 I had an ich outbreak my hippo, sailfin, yellow's and dog faced puffer were covered. After about 2 weeks of feeding a well balanced diet it went away. it was gone for about 3 months. I then upgraded my 180 to a 300. I thought for sure when I transfered the fish I would get another outbreak. I was wrong I did not see a single spot on any of my fish. I purchased an achilles and put him in a Quarentine tank left him there for 3 weeks. Put him in the 300 and now he has ich. All the other fish seem fine. It has been about 4 weeks now that the achilles is in my main tank. He is still eating, but still has some spots on him. I am thinking he can pull thru but I am not sure. The part that has me baffled........If while in my 180 the fish had no visible signs of ich for over 3 months you would think the life cycle was broken and the ich was gone. I am going to stick to good feeding, good water quality and cleaner fish........

Good luck with your achilles. I will be pulling for you. My guy just got progressively worse until he passed. Like I said, I think it might have been a stocking issue. They are very difficult fish and I learned a tough lesson. Still might be learning as my Fowleri, show fish, has a bad case. What was funny for me or weird, is that all my acanthurus tangs got it, but no other fish did. If he just has some spots on him, then maybe he will pull through. Like I said, mine was covered.

I would say he really does not have any spots on him. More like bumps. I Would hope that after being in the tank for 4 weeks and still eating he would have to have a good chance of making it thru. His slime coat has to be getting good enough to keep the ich away. I have my fingers crossed.......My next fish in QT as I type is a blue faced angel. I am going to leave him in QT for another 4 weeks to hopefully give the achilles some more time.

I would have to agree with you. I was going to add a regal angel that has been in QT at a store for 4 weeks, but have canceled my order. Keep me posted and good luck.

Thanks and same to you.......I wish a smart person would just invent a reef safe sure fire cure to ich.

Quick update...Fowleri is still covered. Lost my watanabe angel, kole tang and one of my clowns. Yikes...None of these fish appeared to have it until they passed or right before they passed. Could this be velvet or do the fish usually pass much quicker? Hopefully, some of my other fish will fight this off.

I would recommend you guys post about your devastating fish losses in the Fish Disease Forum to get some real help from a few of the experts, if you haven't already:confused:
