Acid Trip Chalice - Is this for Real?

Thats under actnics. They've posted pictures of it under typical lighting. Its nice, but not $400 nice. Of course my opinion.

They tell you up front that it wont look like that until its at least 3"...LOL thats YEARS!! by then when its time to complain they will be long gone.

"Price is for 1 eye. To get all the color you see in our mother colony your frag will need to grow to a size of atleast 3 to 4 inchs.. This coral does not like to be frag, it turns all red and purple, as it grow out it will turn all those amazing colors..."

I have seen this coral in person. It really is almost that nice. Of course the pic is under actinic. I think $400 is crazy, but people also pay 200-300 for colorful chalice frags all the time. I am not into collecting chalices other then the colors they don't do much for me. If was collecting I would say that would be one to have. JMO.

FYI. I really doubt Tropicorium will be long gone in a couple years. For those of you that don't know this LFS. Dick (owner of the trop)is one of the pioneers in coral propagation. He has also been mentioned in many of the saltwater books that we all rely on.

I see people paying 190.00 to 300.00 all the time for chalices that are not 1/4 as pretty as that one imo. Is it under actinics yes,but so are 90% of the others.I guess if it was a tyree or a Le by one of the other guys who post pics in this area and just happen to have a couple of extra frags of it laying around for sale then it would be ok? Like someone mentioned above tropicorium has a great rep. and I doubt they are going anywhere soon.I wish I had a frag of it!

Wow, I've never been overly impressed with a lot of chalices. I don't have any myself, nor do I think I'd ever get one....unless THAT one comes my way !

I'd totaly buy that for myself....if I won the lottery.

Ill tell you what, I got a frag as well as 4 other people on here that I know. That 5 frags that I know about. Ill admit, Im splitting my frag but if that didn't happen, Id still find a way to get a frag. Bryan and Dick are great people to deal with.

Same as the Gem Tang, some people think the price is crazy while others are willing to spend for something they enjoy.

I felt the same way too, but that changed. I didn't like the way they handled the flamethrower issue. :rolleye1:

How big was the mother colony to start with? Is the one on Trop the only large piece around? If there are no others to compare it to how do you know it will color up the same? No one that i now of has been able to duplicate the melting pot and i have had a piece for a year and a half and it reaches over 3" and is not close to the original. It is a stunning piece but where is the proof of what it will do after being fragged.

I guess you never know until you try, huh?

AquaworldPSC has a melting pot colony and Id say they're doing a good job getting the colors out of it...

Excactly. If you have the money to spend and like chalices. Try it. If not, why knock them. Everybody knows it is a gamble with corals. Not every coral will look the same in all different conditons.

I have also seen this chalice in person and its the real deal. I now that its hard to look at some of these pic with out seeing the coral in person. After I saw it in person I had to get a piece of it for my self.

As far as the price goes all I can say is that when I was up there talking to the people at the trop they had all ready sold over half of there stock of this peace all ready for $400 a frag, in just one week of it being put on there sight. So I for one would not expect for it to drop in price as there is not a lot of this coral to go around.

There's no doubt its a collector's piece. It won't be popular with everyone but most hard-core challice collectors will have it.

Ian...My melting pot has better color than Aqua Worlds in my opinion but still along way away from the mother. I am not knocking the piece at all. I would just think if you can claim this is what it will look like i would expect there to be some sort of evidence. Show a progression of a frag to full potential. I agree completely that you won't know until you try. I have bought many pieces on a hope and try basis but nowhere near that price tag. I would just think at that cost and statement a few frags should have been made to show that it will retain some similiar coloring. I have to say i would buy the piece but i will wait and see if it's true.
