Just picked up a mari-cultured hoeksemai... those that have kept it successfully, what type of lighting and flow? Sounds like high amounts of both? I have a spot where I can put it almost directly in the path of my Tunze 6105, that might be too much flow though I'm assuming.

I previously had one in high light, mid-high flow. Coloured up amazingly. Was my brightest blue coral!

I have a new mari frag thats in high light with mid-high flow and I cant get it coloured up. However, I am seeing tiny bits of blue appearing on the corallite edges...so hope it turns completely blue within the next 3 months.

I'll get a shot of mine, it is actually coloured up despite just being shipped in (i.e. it never lost its colour). I think I'm going to place it in high light with strong indirect flow. It seemed to be holding its colour at the LFS though in what I would call moderate to lower light/flow.

Looks different from the matrix I've seen, similar but different. More uniform blue with the greenish ring in the polyps.

Is the blue matrix a hoek?

jroovers, i was speaking of the tyree blue matrix which is blue with the yellow/green inner circle on the coralite. the more i look the more it doesnt look like the same growth structure.

I agree that looking at TFP's photos the structure/shape does have a difference Looking at random photos, the two do look similar and yeah, I guess if you've never owned both you can confuse between the two.

I agree that looking at TFP's photos the structure/shape does have a difference Looking at random photos, the two do look similar and yeah, I guess if you've never owned both you can confuse between the two.

Thanks Mr Pluto. :thumbsup: That shows a distinct difference between the two. I have the Hoek, and the corallites are no way as densely packed.

hoek bump....still not much growth, but the blue is even more intense than the oregon tort!

Anyone know if this is a hoek? Truthfully, it looks more like a hoek than a tort. Its definitely not a tenius

Honestly that looks more like a tort to me just due to growth form. I had a Cali tort that looked very similar. Hoek will grow in more of a stag shape with more PE.
