Acros make me smile again

Another blue "prostrata"... I need to get a real mille for crying out loud! :)

Figure I'd add a few pics from the other nigh to this thread :)

Here's that prostrata from above. Yikes it's growing fast!

My Hawkins grows super tight, probably due to strong flow/light:

A couple really nice stags:

And a new little piece in between them that's REALLY getting some nice colors!

One of those cultured milles... was super dark pink body with deep purple tips when I got it. Oh well, at least it's still kind of pretty...

Some echinata looking coral:

A Greg Carrol something or other:

And finally a group shot:

Gorgeous! Are most of your corals grown from fellow reefer frags or ...?

Thank you. Yes, many are.

Some were frags from maricultured pieces.

The aussie echinata is the only colony I've purchased.

Thought I'd throw up a few new shots. Things have come a long way since the AEFW disaster of '08!

Great pics--I know what it's like to get through montindis and aefw myself....

How do you deal with the proximity of sps...mine seem to like to grow into each other that often results in me having to trim a dead branch or two, but in some cases I've lost whole colonies? I lost a huge deep purple plum crazy after an equally nice mariculture piece grew into it. It STN down one branch to the base then disappeared over 2 days.

Do you prune before they touch?

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, I do try to keep them pruned. Most aren't actually that close... it's just the camera angle. But the OT is definitely taking over that rock. At best I think I'll be left with it, and the green table one. They will squeeze out the stag in the middle in short order.

A better angle of some:

Wow Peter everything looks great! I think I'm in need of more nutrients in my tank as most of my sps are very slow growing & washed out. Do u just feed the fish or do u feed the corals any oysterfeast etc as well? How many fish do u have & how high are your bulbs from the acros along the top of your reef? Thanks & keep it up.

Thank you! No, I don't feed the corals. I have 30-ish fish (very high bioload), feed them a LOT, and dose vodka pretty heavily every day. My acros don't grow quickly (IMO anyways) but they do generally have "rich" color, which I prefer. Granted, yes, this means I can't keep humilis, or gemmifera, or other acros that really look their best in a ULNS, but I'm OK with that :)

The bulbs are about 6" from the surface of the water, and most acros are in the top 1/2 to 1/3 of the tank (30" tall tank).

Peter I can see your corals are smiling, they are so happy & relax without those little bastards.

Since you mentioned about ULNS, I want to ask if you intend to keep water a bit nutrient rich? What is your average N & P?

I haven't tested nitrate and phosphate in years :o I'm sure they are not zero, considering my fish load. I have never tried to keep a ULNS. I added PowerBrite LED's about a year ago to the tank, but they are only on in the mornings and evenings. I have to make sure they are off when taking pictures, because they really mess up the photos otherwise.
