adding fish - any thoughts

I'm looking to add some fish. System has two displays and total volume of about 250 gallons (two frag tanks and big sump).

Trying to keep the price reasonable, so nothing ridiculous. Any concerns about compatibility or viability?

Tank is very stable. I'm feeding twice a day 3 hours apart.

120 - mixed SPS dominant with sand:
current fish:
(1) orange shoulder tang
(1) yellow tang
(1) coral beauty
(1) damsel (just won't go away)
(1) PJ cardinal
(1) hawkfish
(1) McCoskers Wrasse

add:
(7) SW - Blue/Green Reef Chromis, Medium
(1) SW - Labout's Fairy Wrasse (Vanuatu) - Medium
(1) SW - (Pair), Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Fiji)
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Small
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Medium
72 bow front - LPS only bare bottom:
current:
(1) desjardini sailfin
(1) cleaner wrasse
(1) Tomini Tang
(2) clowns

add:
(5) SW - Firefish (Indonesia)
(1) SW - Longfin Fairy Wrasse- Male

From what I have heard from other reefers you should add tangs last.....I have a yellow tang, two clowns, and a yellow clown goby.....I am currently trying to acclimate 5 blue green chromis and 2 blue streak cardinal......I will eventually add a six line wrasse last....it would have been the yellow tang last for me but he was put in prematurely....

I love my leopard wrasse!! I wish i would have bought the trio from ARC a year and some change ago but i just got my one, and it is one of my favorite fish, but def wish i had at least two so i could have male and female. It is on my list for eventually.
She's always out and about, use's the whole tank for swimming and is a great tank mate!!

Thats a nice assortment of fish that should be out most of the time! Should make your tank look full of life :-)

looks doable . i'd do it in batches, pairs of wrasses, fire fish, chromis. all your new add ons are softy's. i'd try and get them good a fat in qt first.

Are you planning on adding those fish at once?

that's a good question. I'm ordering on-line which I usually don't do. This poses an interesting logistics issue. I've been tinkering with QT using TMZs technique of 10G tanks swapped every 3days - problem is that I can't "process" this many fish. Two orders gets me pretty close to free shipping, I'm sure I can find something else to get me there :)

I'm thinking two orders:
first:
(1) SW - Labout's Fairy Wrasse (Vanuatu) - Medium
(5) SW - Firefish (Indonesia)
(PAIR) SW - (Pair), Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Fiji)
(1) SW - Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Sri Lanka) - Small

second:
(1) SW - Longfin Fairy Wrasse- Male
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Small
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Medium
(7) SW - Blue/Green Reef Chromis, Medium
(2) SW - Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Sri Lanka) - Small

OR
first:
(1) SW - Labout's Fairy Wrasse (Vanuatu) - Medium
(1) SW - Firefish (Indonesia)
(1) SW - (Pair), Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Fiji)
(PAIR) SW - Longfin Fairy Wrasse- Male
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Small
(1) SW - Leopard Wrasse, Female (Tonga/Fiji) - Medium

second:
(5) SW - Firefish (Indonesia)
(7) SW - Blue/Green Reef Chromis, Medium
(3) SW - Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Sri Lanka) - Small

What do you think?

great advice, I've heard similar recommendations. Truth is the fish i have I got early on before I started really charting out what I was doing. I'm fortunate that my yellow tank is very passive :)

When is the last time you added a fish with the yellow. thy can be pains in the a$$. I have lost a few fish trying to add to a tank with a yellow

I think your list of fish is great. If you can't meet "free shipping" maybe someone in the area would like to order a fish or two with your order. This way, you could add less fish per time.
Just a thought.
As for the Yellow Tang, I purchased my 72g system used with a 7yr Tang at the time. He was my first fish. I then added two black clowns, algae blenny and a Karma Angel (Juvenal) with no issues whatsoever. My tang is very friendly with all tank mates. So far. lol

+++++ on the fire fish, i am planning to have lots too :D
maybe giving them lots of hiding spaces will help with them from jumping out of the tank

id skip the firefish due to them being very bad at tank acclimation. esp with fish alredy in the DT. they are skiddish fish and really should be added 1st. also do you plan on QTing these fish? also Id prizipro and qt all wrasses. and louboti i have had a horrible track record with so IMO id avoid them. but if you decide to try them def go with a reliable source like PIA. also the longfin will eventully be aggressive toward other fish you keep if its with other wrasses. if its alone with no grasses it should be fine

I added a McCoskers wrasse earlier in the week after spending some time in QT - I haven't seen any issues, though i am looking at quite a bit more than before.

One thought is to swap the 120's yellow tank with the 72's sailfin at the same time. The Sailfin has been getting bigger and could use the space.

I tried once before and had issues dying off over time, I was going to give it one last shot. Unfortunate they are hard to acclimate, I really enjoy the life they bring to the tank.

What is PIA?

Still looking at praziPro.

What has been your experience with the Labouts? I've read of occasional specimens being aggressive, though it doesn't seem to be a consistent theme

on the longfin I was not aware of the aggressive nature, I'll have to read up a bit more on that.

I've seen some aggressive Yellow Tangs and some mellow ones - think it depends on the fish. I worry about the bad reputation though!

what kind of Hawkfish you got?
Falco. he seems to be a pretty mellow hawk.

make sure to cover aquarium top!
yes, both tanks have nets over them, alas I learned that lesson at a firefish's expense. immediately covered both tanks. surprisingly a subsequent firefsh managed to get through eh 1/4" netting which i still don't understand.

I purchased a pair of small clowns, and a pair of bar gobys.A year later I added a pair of Helfrichi's firefish.
All was well for the next year and a half.
Then all of the sudden one of the helfrichi's died by what I thought was ,somehow running into a bristleworm, but it wasnt long ,one by one the rest of the smaller fish all perished.
My clownfish had apparently started breeding and when I look back at it. I just hadnt noticed the eggs at the time.

Ive also heard firefish dieoff for unknown reasons but just as a headsup anything small and timid might be doomed with a pair of clowns.

Thanks for sharing steve, that is on par with what happened to me. Looks like like these are coming of the list.

Thoughts on an alternative fish that is a bit more resilient?
