If those are my old bulbs you are talking about...unless they took a sudden steep dive I would not think its the bulbs. My tank was doing pretty good under those not too long ago.

But they ARE old as hell...dont get me wrong...lol.

Yet still growing SPS! LOL. I've got new bulbs on order. I'm using the mindset of "it's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission" on this one so let's see if I'm able to come out and play or is mamma going to put me on restriction. LOL

So sorry to hear about this Kevin, when it rains it pours. Do you have a picture of what the buggers look like? Cures?

I was going to suggest a Interceptor treatment but looks like it has been covered. I went through the same thing with the first few Aussie pieces I had as well.

Hey Tina! Yep, tell me about it. Monti-eating Nuds and now this. I'm batting 1000! I don't have any pictures, but all the symptoms are in line with LPS Black Bugs. Interceptor treatment is the only cure, so I'm embarking on that soon. As far as the Nuds go, I'm still in full combat with them, Dips and isolation seem to be working. Added a two coris wrasses to help keep 'em in check too.

Does interceptor affect invertibrates (clams, snails, shrimp, abalone)? Where do you get it?

Your numbers are high for cal/mag/alk you might want to borrow some test kits from a friend and retest because when a test kit goes bad, it will give you false reading and that is when you will start adding stuff to compensate and put your parameter way out of whack.

It's prescription medication. You have to get it from a vet to get it legally. It's supposed to just stun crabs. Snails and shrimp should be fine.

450/1500/10 is pretty much perfect. Not high.

+1 That's right around where I run mine.
But getting a second test is alway's something I do if I don't believe the number's I'm getting on mine.
But if you used new test kit's I wouldn't worry about a second test.

Like your avatar Northbay-reefer, first I was thinking "why do your boxers have wings?" but is it "flying by the seat of your pants"?

I hear you. I'm with Ron, I keep things a little higher than NSW. The test kits are about a two months old. I prefer the higher Ca and Alk. I recently boosted the mag to 1500 from 1400 because I was told chalices like higher mag. but we'll see. I appreciate the concern. The med treatment won't affect the overall parameters, but will definitely wack the heck outta pest.
