After my fish have been through the quarantine process. I like to release the fish to the DT at night time when everyone is asleep. How do you guys do it?

At night time, I put in an acclimation box with the new addition, leave him in their for upto 5 days and then release an hour after lights go off on the day I chose

By the time your QT period is over the QT and DT should have the same conditions. I just scoop them up and drop them in.

Always when the lights are off and I will leave the lights off for a day or two depending on what was added

+1...this is the way to go!

Don't the acclimation box make it a small prison for the fish? I don't see how this is healthy for it especially for 5 days or so.

Fresh water constantly flows through the box to keep good water quality, and as for the fish, what do you think would be better for the fish, being in a confined area that still allows a little swimming room and a safe surrounding, or being bullied into a tiny cave where they can't swim at all and get picked on. Me personally, I would chose the safe environment and put the fish in a slightly uncomfortable situation for a little while, rather then a terrible situation that might not last long at all

I like the acclimation box idea although I never used it. If I were to use it I would make one myself and make it larger than most that I've seen.

But to answer the OP, I make sure all the conditions are the same in QT and display, and I scoop out and drop in at night.

You can make a larger acclimation box with the plastic egg crate / sky light that people use for frag tanks.

Its cheap and you can use ZIP ties to put it together. You can also make it long, wide, whatever you want.

There are larger size, plastic 'critter keepers' at Petco and probably Walmart for ~$20-25, that are fine for most fish. For BIG fish an eggcrate divider/box is probably best.

I throw in a couple of PVC pieces for hiding places and the fish are fine for the few days of 'captivity'

We shut off the lights and plop 'em in or just plop 'em in...of course, the tank params are matched.
