AI Hydra Settings Thread

the picture is bluer than what I'm looking at but I think I may have it where I want it for now.

AI Hydra Settings Thread

And that's exactly what I attempted to correct for. The reason I decreased blue but increased white is I am worried about photo inhibition at shorter wavelengths. The easiest way for me to achieve this was pick a point on the blue end where I achieved roughly 180-220 par from the blue/violet channels and use the white channels to fluctuate PAR up to my desired levels. Also, how blue LED's appear is one of my biggest turnoffs from them. Back in the halide days, over my 65 breeder I ran 2 250 watt radiums and 1 250 watt iwaski halide. It provided the perfect mix blue and white light and gave the tank that mid day reef appearance. O and to boot it grew corals like weeds. If I try to achieve a similar appearing spectrum with LED's everything either bleaches or doesn't grow.

I have ran a 12k and 14k on my tank and the growth is ok so I figured I would try the AB+ and see what I get from growth and color. So ill leave it on this setting for a couple months and see what happens. I don't like super blue tanks but where it sits now isn't that bad. My old sols would grow the crap out of my corals which the setting I have now reminds me of. Fingers crossed.

Definitely update, I'm very interested in what others experience with a profile similar to mine. It would be nice to get a group of us ai owners to do a similar study on our own tanks and report back with what we find.

Yea that's what I figured they should be doing on here but I think everyone is just worried about par or starting points for the most part on here.

Baseline established In 3, 2, 1... 20-25% white channels and 70-90% blue channels on lights hung 12" AWL nets you roughly 300 PAR @ 12" BWL. Total lighting schedule length = 10-12 hrs with 1-4 hr ramps. Now let's get down to the tinkering fun and find some sweet spot settings here lol

I agree people should show or tell growth and better colors of corals to help each other out. Then dig into water chemistry.

Just put your profile into my Hydra 26! Ran the preview and didn't think it was that blue like some people have said it was too blue, along with the Radion AB+ profile.

Looks well!

I'll be posting growth shots, as this profile is the reason I was going either Hydra (because I saw someone post your profile) or Radion.
I'm am acropora fanatic and my tank will be 98% acropora.
Although I have only two in my tank now, a Birdsnest and a random acro that's green with blue tips. I'll be adding many more frags here shortly and will report often as possible in growth and color.

I'll also note that I'm running the ZEOvit method.

Heres an FTS from the other day!

Awesome looks fantastic man! I'm really excited to get a few of us trying out these profiles so we can get our own little study going. My tank is the opposite I have mostly LPS, an anemone and easy SPS (encrusting montis and Birdsnest). I am not the biggest colorstick fan, but have a nice ledge I will be adding a cheap acro frag too this weekend to see how it reacts to this lighting. Happy reefing and I can wait to see some updates in the future!

How are you guys connecting the Hydra 26 to Apex? What module do I need? (The previous version not the new HD model).

So I've been running the profile for a day now.
While my 1 Acropora was doing great, my Birdsnest seemed to be a little irritated under direct light. Too strong, I presume. So I moved that away from the light and down a little bit.

Today I picked up a hand full of Acropora including two colonies and varying mini-colonies to frags.

I did a water test today for the first time on this reefer. Alkalinity was a bit low, but surprised at it. A water change and some Alk dosing will bring it back up to 7-7.5 over the next few days.

Salinity: 1.026
Temp: 79.5-80.0
Ca: 415
Alk: 6.1
Mg: ????
Nitrate: 1ppm
Phosphate: Undetectable

Dosing regimen:
ZEOstart - 0.1ml
ZEObak - 1 drop three times a week
Sponge Power - 1 drop every other night
Flatworm Stop - 1ml every night (Just started tonight)

Running:
Vertex 1.5 ZEOlite Reactor with ZEOstones
Bubble Magus Curve 5 Skimmer
Maxspect Gyre-130
AI Hydra 26HD w/ HMS Mount
- Running Orcus Varuna Ecotech Marine's Mock SPS AB+ Profile

Going to post pictures of my Acropora right now and will post again in a month for progress shots. The pictures are slightly edited to help match exactly what I see in person.

1) This is one of the colonies. From above it looks a Yellow-Green color with pastel green polyps. This acropora is sitting middle of the tank on the flat shelf, just away from directly under the LED puck.

2) Red Dragon Acropora. One of my favorites and surprisingly very bright under the LED's. Likely to turn more pink and maybe even more pastel with ZEOvit like my previous Red Dragon colony. This acropora is sitting middle of the tank on the flat shelf just away from directly under the LED puck.

3) Pink/Purple Acropora. Not exactly sure on the name, was just sitting around in the store. From above it looks like it has a pink base with purplish tips. From the side, it looks straight pink. Interested in seeing how this one turns out. This acropora is sitting high in the tank on the right side of the light.

4) Blue/Green Acropora. I've had this exact piece before in my previous tank before I broke it down. Green base with neon-blue tips and very green polyps. It's an absolute stunner once all colored up! This acropora is sitting slightly high in the tank a little away from the LED puck.

5) Green with Blue Tipped Acropora. This is a nice one! Bought this as a tester before I broke my tank down. Under T5, it developed a nice green base with vibrant blue growth tips. Excited to see this under LED's. Was without light for a few days so lost some color. However, you can see purple in some areas of the acropora. Interesting! This acropora is placed in the middle of the tank, a little away from the LED puck.

And finally, here is an FTS with everything finally glued down. This is not the AB+ profile, but with the default "All On" button to get the best possible shot!

So on xmas eve I was at the LFS which was just the owner and I for about 2 hrs haha. Over his main frag display he has Radion G3's on one side and Hydra 52HD's on the other. Since it was dead we busted out the PAR meter and got to work. He already runs sps AB+ on the Radions and our PAR readings backed up the WWC study at 24" AWL 12" BWL which was about 300 PAR. The profile I made when loaded onto the hydras was fairly close about 300 PAR under the same conditions but the visible color was a bit "whiter" in appearance (It was a very slight difference). Next we dropped the Hydra's to 13" AWL because I have noticed what appeared to be burning on a few of my lower light demand corals (Birdsnest in particular). What we found is when dropping to this height par jumped to nearly 400 at 12" depth. After messing with the settings for a good bit we settled on reducing white, red, green by about 30% and came up with a 12" AWL profile that I am now currently running on my tank. He is keeping the original profile running on his tank as am I the new on mine so I will update in a month or so with our results.I will say however that judging by the PAR readings we gathered and the visual spectral comparison observed between the radions and hydras I would put money on the fact that we will see similar results to the radions running sps AB+. Attached are the new links to both profiles. Happy reefing!!!!! AI SPS AB+ 12" AWL ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!Akco_cmvvLNrgZhvyvRF4Kf5orQL7w ). Hey!

I was trying to download these settings aswell but it says they are incompatible. Are these settings only for Hydra HD? I have four "normal" Hydra 52´s so I figured it were perhaps only for HD version?

Best regards from Sweden

Tank looks fantastic, I love that aquascape! And thank you for joining our little study, there is really nothing like this I can find on the AI platform. So hopefully we get some positive results and settle upon a good baseline schedule. I too have found it too be a strong profile, I sent my anemone running when I first switched and have had to place the lights into acclimation mode to allow everything to adjust. Happy reefing, Happy New Year and I hope the schedule works out well for you!!!
